I am bored right now, so I decided to look up and put together a system to rank the SEC Basketball programs all time.

I wanted to put an emphasis on winning championships and going deeper in the NCAA's. I did not award total wins because that would take too long.

Here is how I broke it down....

National Title: 10 pts
Final Four: 8 pts
Reg. Season Conference Champions: 7 pts
Elite Eight: 6 pts
Sweet Sixteen: 5 pts
Conf. Tourney Champions: 4 pts
NCAA Appearance: 3 pts

Explanation: I placed a higher emphasis on regular season conference champions because in my eyes, that is tougher to win over a course of a season. Winning any conference tournament is not near as big in my eyes as winning a championship over an extended amount of time.

FINAL RANKINGS

1. Kentucky: 1,177 pts
2. Arkansas: 454 pts
3. LSU: 252 pts
4. Florida: 212 pts
5. Alabama: 184 pts
6. Tennessee: 172 pts
7. Mississippi State: 113 pts
8. Vanderbilt: 101 pts
9. South Carolina: 89 pts
10. Auburn: 68 pts
11. Georgia: 66 pts
12. Ole Miss: 31 pts

*LSU's national title was before tourney play was started and the National Champion was voted on. LSU only got 1/2 a title count on that year(5 pts).

No matter the point system that is almost incomprehensible

This system rewards a programs longevity, not just lately.

I would have to put a magnificent increase on National Title points to get Florida ahead of LSU.

hmmm. So you included Arkansas stats from other conferences?

that's a fail dude.

and historically it's like this:

UK
LSU
UT
Bama
UF
MSU
Vandy
UGA
Aubie
Ole Miss

I don't know where you put the other two "historically" because they have only been around for 15-20 years now huh?

It blows my mind to think about how Florida was not competetive in the two major sports until the last 20 years. How was that even possible?

I don't think you have awarded enough points for national titles. That is the ultimate program definer, a school that has 2 should be ranked ahead of a school with none.

LSU has been in the tournament 20 times, UF has been in it 16 times. 2 titles should be more than enough to push UF ahead.

Because all he does is flame Arkansas. You're best just to move along.

two of those programs have only competed for the last 15-20 years in the SEC

while the other 9 competed with UK for the other 60 odd years

How is that a flame. Arkansas has a fine basketball tradition, better than their football tradition.....yet my FACT that they have only been in the SEC for 20 years while the others have been for 80 clearly makes it virtually impossible to compare the current 12 historically

do one for the last 20 years and see where we all stand

I included all programs stats, as they are all members of the SEC now.

You may have a case against Arkansas had the Hogs not been to 4 Final Fours, 8 Elite Eights, 6 Sweet Sixteens, and 17 NCAA Appearances prior to joining the Southeastern Conference. Yes, Arkansas dominated the SWC, but they also took their game to a national level outside of the conference.

I'm sure if you just based it off of NCAA tournament results LSU would still be looking waaay up at Arky.

So since the rest had to play UK they were automatically better and at a disadvantage as compared to us?

okay..moving on now.

You're probably correct. The standings would not change much, if any.

LSU would likely move below Florida though.
