Auburn's Heisman statues are too much, and Cam Newton's is far too soon

Building a statue of any living human being, even one who has never been accused of anything more serious than jaywalking, is a risky endeavor. Building a statue of a Heisman winner who's barely left campus is even riskier. See disgraced and dethroned 2005 Heisman winner Reggie Bush. He never got a statue. Lucky for the statue.
Building a statue of Newton at this point borders on reckless. Isn't it wildly premature to start work on that tribute before the NCAA investigation into his recruitment is closed?

Scarb is out of his element on this one.

I tend to agree with him on the Newton statue and I don't like the idea of doing the statues anyway. I think the murals on the stadium are plenty of homage to the past players and statues are Bama's thing.
To me, the statues for Auburn come off as tacky and out of place.

As Auburn has been saying and now most media members agree (Even Fartbaum), the CAM investigation for all practical purposes is OVER...

Get real homie. I'd bet a $1,000 that a yahoo, sports illustrated, or HBO is digging for dirt right now. Especially after 4 players just admitted to getting paid.
As for the statues, I'd hold off on Cam's for awhile. Dude was arrested for theft at UF, on the verge of being expelled for cheating, and probably paid to play at Auburn. Not to mention he's immature. Is the statue gonna have him drinking cammy cam juice? If he was Tebow, then that'd be a different story.

Ahhhhh, I see Scarb is doing his level best to get back in the good graces of the states updykes of late.
Ain't gonna work, Kev... they hate your guts anyway.

I just think it make you look petty following in Bama's footprints. I think Bama made a mistake as well with Saban as he is still coaching there. Statues should be reserved for those that are dead or dieing.

Objectively speaking...You would think that the Auburner's would do stuff to try to shed the "little brother" perception..yet they embrace it by copying them.

Yeah, because a further investigation into Le Affaire de Cam will reveal something MORE than the past 6-month anal exam in to the matter has found.
Oh... and how do the HBO 4 relate to Cam? I'd like to hear this.

Do you feel Tebow's statue was too soon as well?

I never knew that bama was the first organization ever to place a statue outside their home stadium/office/facility!
Hey UF? How do you feel about copying bama?

They all fall into the same category of being "paid to play". Hear me now?

I don't care what other schools do, but it just seems over the top tacky to me. I mean, maybe once a great former athlete (and person) has passed away, sure. That's a great way to honor him.
Tebow? Newton? Ridiculous.

What would you expect Auburn to say? And after the way the suspension/reinstatement was botched, I would expect nothing less than lock-down radio silence from the NCAA if it is still working this issue.

Statues for a living/active athlete or coach are creepy as hell. There is no one that can convince me otherwise.
I'm all for the Bear statue but the Stallings and Saban statues are just psycho. Auburn is taking it to another level as they so weirdly do as the little brother/wannabe syndrome.
Edit: Yes, the Tebow statue is equally stupid.

Maybe this "announcement" was an attempt to try to drown out some of the negative media attention they have been getting.
Auburn's PR department was wonderful at this at several points throughout this past year.

This article is going to really upset the Alabama fans who insist he is an Auburn homer and out to get Alabama. Will make it hard to cry about him, at least for awhile.

I didnt know that Bama had statues of all their Heisman winners
But yes the Cam statue is a bit to soon. Should have waited a few years.
As for the reggie bush comparison and the years it took, you do realize they did not hear of any transgressions for a few years after he was gone. Making it harder to gather info. I do think they are still half arse investigating, but it will not take 5 years to rule if they do.
