These are the guide lines:
1. Coaching: Head & assistants
2. Players: Talent wise and condition.
3. Recruiting program. Staying vs leaving early.
4. Type of Offense vs then.
5. Type of Defense vs then.
6. Facilities. Stadium, Practice facilities and Training facilities.
7. How long have you been a fan of your team and why then the SEC and why?

We are the best Conference for a reason, what is it that makes us the best top to bottom.
The answers you give for each do not have to be on the same post.
I believe we can get a handle onto what makes us the best and the most productive Conference in all of College football. We will find out who is a fan and who is a bandwagoner. I am in the belief that the SEC is the best because we do have the best of all these things top to bottom including the greatest fans.

What about you let's talk about it and also use pictures to prove what you are saying if need be.

Ready let's go!

These are the guide lines:
1. Other than Tuberville being gone over Chizik I don't see any real losses on the coaching staff. Chizik is probably a better DC than Roof but our offensive coaches are much much better
2. The talent of our players are back on the rise, in 2004 we were stacked on each side of the ball but we are increasing our hybrid type playmakers dramatically.
3. The change is recruiting and retaining is un-measurable Auburn is a million times off with this staffs recruiting
4. Still remains to be seen, our offense is much more productive now in terms of yards and points but our offense in 2004 was effective and efficient.
5. The only big loss as of right now, the defense is not nearly as aggressive or effective. Our depth remains an issue but time will tell in this matter.
6. A new HD jumbo-tron, outside renovations to Jordan Hare, new tailgating spots and a brand new indoor practice facility on the way. We are on the up in up in every sport at Auburn and will have some of the top facilities in the nation overall
7. Never had a true CFB team until I transferred to Auburn. I would root for UGA because of all the family ties to the University I have but I always loved the SEC programs and type of football associated with it.

Facilities and things are much improved but as far as the team, we are where we should be in my opinion. It does go in cycles and Alabama has had a few good cycles but this last down period was too long for me. I would like to see us win a NC every 10 years. Having a great team for a couple of years every decade is not too much to ask in my opinion.

ETA: That being said, we have a long way to go to get to where we were when I started watching Alabama football. The 70's is when I remember us and we owned college football for the entire decade.

I started keeping up with Auburn football in 1993....

We are not on probation right now...facilities are better...coaching staff as a whole is better...talent level I don't really know...because IMO the talent level is better in the SEC now than it has ever been...

I am an Auburn fan because my parents raised me the right way....

The purpose of this thread is to compare, when all is said and done, about how good each team has gotten over time and the conference as a whole. How much better and what changes has been made to make them better.

1. Coaching: Head & assistants

This is pretty damned hard. I always watched Alabama games with my Dad, but when the games really started making more sense (as far as I can remember) was when I was about 7 or 8. I don't remember (nor care) who Curry's assistant coaches were. Though I remember watching games before, I got a better handle on the game as a whole that '89 season. Good season. My father wasn't a big fan of Curry or Hollingsworth, so neither was I. The sugar bowl that year was fairly close, but I remember never really feeling like we had a chance to win it. When they announced Stallings as the head coach, my Dad was livid (I beliee his exact words were, "He's been a loser everywhere he's ever been!").

2. Players: Talent wise and condition.

Gary Hollingsworth- Dad wasn't a big fan so neither was I.

Siran Stcy- had some great moments.

Kieth McCants- was a stud in college. After Alabama's two previous linebacking studs (Bennet and Thomas) who would have ever thought this guy would be a bust?

3. Recruiting program. Staying vs leaving early.

I was 8. I didn't care

4. Type of Offense vs then.

Curry had a pretty high flying offense. With Miami doing so well and FSU begininng their major run, I thought this was how offenses were supposed to be.

5. Type of Defense vs then.

Still didn't know enough about the game

6. Facilities. Stadium, Practice facilities and Training facilities.

I was 8- I just didn't are.

7. How long have you been a fan of your team and why then the SEC and why?

Since I can rememer. My dad was always a huge fan.

So I guess to some up, we have better talent, much better coaching, better facilities (We no longer play in Birmingham an BDS is kick arse
. ) and a much better program.

I edited my OP...

From where?

I originally went to Texas Tech, being from Texas in all. I only applied to Texas Tech, UGA and A&M got into all three but went to Tech because I wanted to be with my buddies. I grew outta that and wanted a better education so I narrowed it down to Auburn and UGA.

I don't remember whenever I "became" a Bama fan, it was just something that happened really. I'll just use 1996 as the year because I was seven years old and could actually start to understand the game.

1. Both head coaches were legends in the making with Gene Stallings and Nick Saban. I don't really remember anything about the staff in the early 90s, but I do know that Brother Bill Oliver was one hell of a defensive coordinator. I'm sure our staff then was very good, like it is today.

2. The players for "both" programs were very talented, especially on the defensive side of the football. The defenses in both seasons were known as some of the quickest defenses in the country. Overall, both teams were very talented.

3. With Gene Stallings, I think Alabama was a perennial top 10-15 recruiting team, which is good. With Nick Saban, Alabama is a perennial top 5 recruiting team, which is obviously better.

4. We run a similar style offense, to an extent. Control the line of scrimmage, don't let your quarterback make mistakes, pound the football, be sound in the kicking game.

5. We ran a 4-3 in 1996 and now we run a 3-4, but there are many similarities. Both defenses are very physical, athletic, and fast. Both defenses could also win the game for you, if need be.

6. We still played games at Legion Field in 1996. I think Bryant-Denny's capacity was only around 73,000. Now we play exclusively at Bryant-Denny and the capacity is 100k+ so this has been an obvious upgrade.

7. I don't remember becoming a fan, it was something I was born into. I really didn't have a choice. I was born an Alabama fan.

We were in probation and had Joe Lee "No songs 'n pork rinds" Dunn as an interim head coach when I really started keeping up.

.....It's doing very well with the exception of the 4 years of doom that was Cut's last year and O's every year.

This must be for someone 20 and younger. I don't have time to think back to 1960 to go through the ups and downs of MSU football.

started to really keep up with TN in the early 90's, couple of SEC titles and a BCSNC sprinkled in there in the beginning and now look at us

Oliver wasn't our D coordinator in 96, Dubose was (his only year). Strangely enough, it was Stallings worst year defensively that he coachd at Alabama. Go figure.

Well this is pretty simple. I recall being a Gamecock fan since being the smallest of kids but really started keeping up with them game for game player for player when I was 9 years old in Holtz's 1st year. That year we were 0-11 so I'm going to assume everything is in better condition since then.

Surely you have some good things over the years that have kept you a fan and that is what makes this conference so great in my mind and that is the way the fans have stuck with their schools the way we have. That is also what makes our fan bases so knowageable about the teams in this conference. If you find time would love to read about the things that have served to make you a fan for so many years. Remember we are the SEC and we are the best so share what helps us to be the best from State's point of view.

I started keeping track of UF in 2003 really closely, tracking recruits, reading message boards, stuff like that.

1. Meyer >>>>>>> Zook. enough said.
2. UF is at the top of the football world. In 2003, they were a disgrace.
3. The level of recruiting at UF is elite. One of, if not the best in the country.
4. Offense went from 50 screens per game to the spread option
5. Defense has been the same. 4-3.
6. Facilities have improved greatly under Meyer.
7. I started watching football in 1990. Became a UF fan after my first home game in 1991.
