You can't be a one man show like you could in the Vaught years, the game has advanced and you need a strong supporting staff to back you up. I love Freeze and hope he stays until he retires, but he needs to lose the loyalty to his friends and realize that this is a performance based job. Look at Patterson at TCU. He recruits great and is a strong coach, but they didn't take the next step until he hired a few BSD OC''s to help him out.

Give Freeze a few more killer coaches to back him up and he'll compete every year. Until then, it's going to be a bumpy road. I don't think it's going to happen until Bjork steps up and plays the hardass though. Freeze's only known weak spot his loyalty to both players and coaches. I thought he shed some of that by his ability to bring in Swag and give him the job over guys he recruited, but it's evident he has a tough time doing that to his staff.

I still remember my first boss giving me this advice, be friendly with the guys who work for you, but don't be friends. If you get emotionally attached then you make poor business decisions, which will in turn hurt you in the long run when things get tough. Things are tough for Freeze and I'm not sure he can make the hard decisions on them.

All of this is perfect.

I always thought Freeze should be more of the CEO type head coach, the guy who focuses on the direction of Ole Miss football and delegates specialties to the best talent the team can realistically afford. A good CEO with terrible employees and officers can only do so much.

As much as I want Freeze to be that type of coach, a good CEO knows when to let go of an underperforming employee, because in the end, his position is to do his best for the football team, not the employee.

Obviously Freeze has an issue with this, the family aspect between all the coaches that is consistently talked about, even in episodes of the season, will hinder his willingness to fire someone.

As WhiskeyDick said, hopefully Bjork steps up this year, because Ole Miss Football has to capitalize on the talent it is bringing in.
