First, thanks for giving me access to your board.
The reason I wanted access was to ask you guys about the Gulfport/Biloxi area. Last year I found a nice little hotel on the coast in Biloxi that I really enjoyed called the White House. Enjoyed my stay so much, that I am going back again this year.
Anyway, my last visit mainly consisted of playing golf every day. Played the Grand Bear course and then played another course that was close to the hotel and just off the beach. Cannot remember the name, but it was old and little run down.
I curious if there are any can't miss things to maybe check out, or if there is a better course available to the public to play. Food wise, Shaggy's was a decent spot and so was Cora's, which is in the hotel.
Again, just wanting some info on the area. I found the place to be a nice little short retreat to just get away from things for a while.

I've lived in MS my entire life and never been to the MS gulf coast.
CSB, I know.

To be honest, up until last year I had never even considered it. I am not much of a swimming in the ocean type person, so none of that really matters to me. I just enjoy the view and a stroll on the beach with my coffee.

I haven't been to our coast since I was probably 10. Maybe some of our coast trash can help. We typically go further east to get away from the mouth of the MS. Lots of people go to gulf shores/OB, but we go to destin because my in-laws have a few places there. Hope somebody gives you some decent help on this topic, but I can't

Cannot blame you. The MS river certainly has a coloring effect on the water around Biloxi.

I gotcha. I like Myrtle Beach and St. Augustine in Florida. I tend to center my trips around golf and St. Augustine has a nice golf resort there.
Like I said, this is the second year in a row Ive done this Biloxi trip. Its not too far, found a nice place to stay and the people were super friendly last year. I may start making this an every year thing.

I've been wanting to go down and stay at the Beau and play fallen oak and the grand bear, but haven't gotten to it. St. Augustine is awesome, but I didn't care for myrtle beach, even with all of the golf courses. The town itself was very similar to PCB or Daytona imo...

I used to live down in Diamondhad and still get back due to my son living down in Ocean Springs area with his Mother. I love Trapanni's down in BSL. Wish Chappy's hadn't moved to Nashville post Katrina but Chimmney's is back open. Chef Scott's has great sushi in Ocean Springs plus there is a good Thia place there. In regards to culture I think BSL and Ocean Springs both do a First Thursday type event every week in the summer month. You'll have to see about what days they do it but it is neat to see the artists display their crafts.

If you want a good golf trip one day, check out the Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro GA. I have been there quite a few times and they have, I think, 9 courses right there you can play.

To eat at all the restaurants on the beach I would choose the reef over any of them. Now onto the golfing i would go with fallen oak and grand bear for sure the two nicest courses on the coast. Treasure bay buffet if your looking for crab legs as they have the best ones on the coast. Cultural hang outs I would go to ocean springs it's a cool town with lots to do. Cafe New Orleans in diberville is also a great place to eat st.

Yea, that may have been it. I know it had been there a long time. The back nine was across railroad tracks.

Gulf, I ate at Shaggy's last year. Was an okay atmosphere. Enjoyed these things called beach balls. Different, but pretty good.
Is Treasure Bay in Biloxi? Like some crab legs, but was unsure how fresh they are there. Isn't most of the fishing in the gulf for oysters and such? I would assume Cafe New Orleans is a cajun cuisine? How far is Diberville?
I will have to look into Fallen Oak. I know one of the courses last year I had looked at was directly related or, in with a casino and without staying at the casino I could not play it. From the pics I remember, it looked pretty nice.

Fallen oak is owned by the beau. It's the best course in ms. They have a champions tour event there. That same event used to be played at the grand bear. Both are apparently very good.

Yes treasure bay is 5 minutes to the west of where you will be staying. Yea fallen oak is with the beau and it's a pricey course but by far the nicest course I have ever played it's well maintained and everything else. Diberville is the city just to the north of Biloxi about 7 minutes from where you will be staying at. Lots of shopping and what not if you want to do that stuff. Overall the coast is really nice as long as you stay out of Gulfport downtown a few nice restaurants there but overall I'm not w fan of it.

Yea, thats it. I wanted to play it but couldn't. I thought the Bear was a nice course though.
I know I will play it again, but am wanting to play 3 days and a different course each day. That is my goal at least.

I think my only time in actual Gulfport last year was just driving through it to get to Biloxi. Maybe I did go back because I needed another pair of shorts and found some Polo store at an outlet mall. Cant remember if that was in Gulfport or in Biloxi.
Ill have to check out Diberville. I am not much into shopping but I am into good food. Also, I wanted to try Mary Mahoney's last year but didn't. Some have told me it is good but some have told me it is overrated. Any thoughts on it?

One of the best courses for the money is towards Pascagoula but is worth the extra time.
Mississippi National
Also a really good restaurant is near by
Half Shell Oyster House

Mary Mahoney's is sort of the most famous restaurant in the area - its about a mile or so East of the White House across from the Beau.
Its a 30 minute or so drive from the White House, but Bay St. Louis is a really cool little town with a busy and quaint downtown area. If you are bringing a wife that's a good dinner/window shopping/strolling around area.
I stayed in the White House two weeks ago when I was in town for the Mississippi Municipal League Convention, and those were the places I hit up. I also took my son to a Biloxi Shuckers game, which is the AA Minor League team that plays across the street from the Beau. If you're into that sort of thing, that's a fun night.

Davis love has a course in gautier. Shell landing I believe is the name

Mississippi national is a nice course so is she'll landing. Mary mahoneys is only about 5 minutes from the White House. Half shell is really good also along with sal and Mookies. But yea the polo outlet is in Gulfport it's right off interstate so it's not too bad of a area. Mugshots is really good if you want a good burger but also woodys in ocean springs is good also. If you want to play a different course everyday I would play shell landing, Mississippi national, grand bear, or fallen oak. Gulf hills isn't a bad course to play and I beleieb after 5 they have a deal that like 10 bucks to play until dark or something like that. Yea the shuckers is a nice venue to go to also. If you have a wife or kids coming alone they have some shows going on at the beau they all will enjoy.
