taking a stronger grasp on Mississippi as a brand. Our head coach has reiterated using THE university of Mississippi in many speeches already so it's not a far fetched idea.

Ok let's be OLE MISS and everything that comes with it and when somebody refers to us as Mississippi just be like ... yep that's right we are THE Unvirsity of Mississippi.

Best of both worlds continue to play up OM while owning the other witout trying to shy away from it.

Pretty much. It just doesn't need to happen in a negative way against Ole Miss. I won't get upset with someone callin us Mississippi, cause we are the university of Ms. But at the same time I wouldn't approve of the school coming out and saying we are backing off of Ole Miss and going to Mississippi.

That feels forced and after everything that has happened with other things getting taken away it wouldn't fly.

People wanna call us Mississippi go ahead it'll always be Ole Miss to me. Just like the black bear will NEVER be my mascot.
I say we should to a panda bear. Equal parts black and white so we don't hurt any races feelings.

think about how many bad things people associate with the name ole miss just over your lifetime(I don't know how old you are so I assume close to my age). Rebranding would provide a fresh image.

"Mississippi" is even more negative in my opinion.

Let me play devil's advocate to that...the names of almost every state in the south could carry a negative connotation in the minds of many. Should we rename Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, etc.? The best way to take the light away from the past is to prove in the present and the future that those days are long in the past. Changing the name is just a gesture that does nothing in the grand scheme of things.

And sorantable is right...Mississippi is too many syllables for the PA announcer to yell after a first down.

I've always disliked the whole "Mississippi" thing. When you think of Ole Miss do the typical things you think about in regards to Mississippi pop into your head? I think "Ole Miss" is unique. I love the cursive script and its like the oasis of Mississippi, which is how I view Oxford. I view Ole Miss to be better than Mississippi, thus why I like to be called Ole Miss

^^^THIS I can't stand when we are referred to as Mississippi by announcers. Ole Miss is our name. And should not be changed.

I wasn't suggesting changing everything just making the whole Mississippi thing more prevalent in some of our marketing

You said it the best Miss. might not be the best in everything, but Ole Miss is something special.

In my opinion....when I see Mississippi on a shirt....in relation to Ole Miss, I think somebody bought it from K-Mart.

This looks way better on a shirt.

People know you are a fan of a school, rather than some Mississippi shirt you bought at a state welcome center.

"Ole Miss" is a unique type of brand. "Mississippi" is exactly like Minnesota or any other state.

Changing it would be like calling UCLA "Los Angeles."

Mississippi, as a whole, embarrasses me quite often.

I'm never embarrassed to claim Ole Miss.

I'd rather have the Colonel but the Bear doesn't bother me at all and as much is this thread is about owning the Mississippi Label ... we should just own our mascot as well who cares it's for children and with the next 20 years this won't be an issuse.

So let's own it and when somebody calls us the Rebel Black Bears be like thats fricking right and we black bears are going to kick your arse

just like when state calls us mississippi we say that's right we are THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI
