Rebranding Ole Miss as Mississippi

Had a discussion with DMagic on this topic and want the board's opinion...
How would you feel about changing the "Ole Miss" label? I feel like older generations will be up in arms if this happens, but I honestly see no downside. I'm not saying get rid of "Ole Miss" altogether, but why not own the "Mississippi" tag a little more? This is, in fact, The University of Mississippi. See Michigan, Florida, Texas, etc. Most listings of our school list us as "Mississippi" already, ESPN labels us as such on the ticker from time to time, and the fact that some state fans see it as a bad thing just tickles me to death. Why would we not want to be known as Mississippi? I think we should own it.
Thoughts? Go.

I've got no problem with it -- I think it's a classic name with just Mississippi . Ole Miss has more negative connotations, and less of a sentimental impact than other things such as the Colonel, the flag, and Slow Dixie. I say drop the name, and bring back the Colonel.

I've always disliked the whole "Mississippi" thing. When you think of Ole Miss do the typical things you think about in regards to Mississippi pop into your head? I think "Ole Miss" is unique. I love the cursive script and its like the oasis of Mississippi, which is how I view Oxford. I view Ole Miss to be better than Mississippi, thus why I like to be called Ole Miss

Ok now when I say what I'm about to say I am not beng hostile towards beHop or anyone for that matter. So please don't take it that way.
I think that's a TERRIBLE idea. Ole Miss is a great label. It's different and it stands out. I see no Pros to changing. And you didn't really give one either besides it would piss State fans off I guess.
Beyond me thinking its a dumb idea in the first place it's also not worth what it would take to do. It would bring a TON of attention to what was going on and it would split the administration and students/ alums even more.
Like Omaha said Ole Miss to me isn't just the school. It's wearing your finest to the Grove, it's beer showers in the spring, it's the Square on a Thursday night.
If you wanna call the school Mississsippi go for it. If the school wants to push it. Hell just don't make a big deal out of and try to force it down our throats.
And honestly Mississippi doesn't exactly have a great national image. But Ole Miss is like the little piece of Heaven in Mississippi.

Nope. Didn't say that. I said the fact that they call us that thinking it's insulting is humorous.
Eta: I'm not talking about completely doing away with Ole Miss or convincing everyone to call us Mississippi. I'm talking minimal stuff like requiring anytime we're listed to be called as such and maybe changing the script on helmets. Leave it on the side of stadium or vise versa.

It will never happen, the university would have to spend a huge pile of cash to try to rebrand us. Nationally, Ole Miss is much more recognized than University of Mississippi.
Also I think the administration likes Ole Miss better because it sounds more like a private school than a public school, kind of adding to that feeling of family and closeness everyone likes.
In my opinion, Ole Miss is the best name and it's really cool and unique. Whenever people (state fans) call us Mississippi, it's never out of respect, it's always to try and piss us off. That's what I associate with the name Mississippi.

I figured this topic would garner this type of response. To play devil's advocate think about how many bad things people associate with the name ole miss just over your lifetime(I don't know how old you are so I assume close to my age). Rebranding would provide a fresh image.
behop wasn't suggesting doing away with the name completely at all anyway. He merely suggested taking a stronger grasp on Mississippi as a brand. Our head coach has reiterated using THE university of Mississippi in many speeches already so it's not a far fetched idea.
