I have yet to hear of a new hire that isn’t good at recruiting
David Cutcliff, Houston Nutt, DJ Durkin.
We just hired Wes Neighboors safety coach Maryland w/ ties to Lane at FAU and Alabama. I have no idea whether he is a good recruiter. I am not sure about DJ's recruiting, but he never pulled any major talent to Oxford so....

3 star no one wanted out of high school who transferred to OM from Maryland for one year?

The guy who led our team in tackles in 2021?

Chance is why our defense was so tough the last half of that season. The defense was a liability and grew to actually win us games when our offense fell off later in the season.

That's what I really hope to see out of Golding - meaningful change.
No one is expecting us to trot out a 2011 Bama style suffocating defense, but I think we all agree we lost a couple of games because we were (a) poor tacklers and (b) usually out of place, especially late in games.

We never had a chance at stopping LSU purely because of our DBs lining up 10-12 yards off WRs for the entire game. It was a minimum of an 8 yard game every single time.

Sounds like we are expected to hire Mark Orphey as DB coach.
Currently coaches DBs at Rutgers. Previously was a DB coach at Utah State and Analyst at Bama.
Originally from Houston and played college ball in Texas

That still doesn't make DJ Durkin a good recruiter. He got lucky a kid followed him to Ole Miss.

This and LSU went to 2 TE sets. Started blasting our front 5 (3-2) which made our safeties start sucking up while our corners were playing prevent. We completely lost the LSU game due to the inability to make adjustments defensively!

You’re the one who said he never pulled any major talent here, and I showed you evidence to the contrary. In fact, he pulled THE major talent for our defense in our best season in years.

So one 3 star guy who blossomed once he got here? Guess we should have kept Durkin.

Chance Campbell "blossomed" while at Maryland and proved he could do so against SEC competition while here.

Dude he was a two-year starter at Maryland and led them in tackles. He was a tremendous asset for us in 2021.
Yes, I wish we had kept Durkin, because our defense in 2021 was much better than the poo poo arse defense we threw out there last year.

Really? I am all in on making a change. We need a coordinator that can recruit better talent (and Durkin's recruitment of one guy, Chance Campbell, was impressive) and come up w/ a better scheme and better in game adjustments. I remember Campbell being a quality transfer now that you mention it. Durkin's D had it's moments. It also had last year's LSU game as others have mentioned. Let's do better. Same for OC.

We gave up 17.8 ppg in the month of November 2021. Conversely, we gave up 32 ppg in the month of November 2022.
We also tackled better as a team in 2021 compared to 2022. I thought our guys were in place to make more tackles in 2021 then as well, but there are no statistics to measure that.
What we can measure is "runaway" defensive games in 2021 and 2022. By that, I mean games were we could not stop the other team's offense. We gave up 480+ total yards four times in 22 compared to once in 21 (in a game we won, to boot).

Durkin's recruiting was irrelevant. There's a reason why Patridge was Co-DC with Durkin. Patridge was the recruiter and it made up for lack of Durkin's recruiting.
Our 2021 defense swarmed. There was always 3 or more Reb defenders at the tackle. We played on the ball and were incredibly aggressive.
Patridge had us playing on our heels all year. And unless you have 5-star talent that can make the in-play adjustments you're hoping for....prepare to get torched all game.

I don't know anything about this guy but Keynodo is a cool arse name.
I looked him up and apparently he previously coached at Southern Cal and was a big 'crooter.
