Longo is pretty highly thought of, therefore I will wait to see more rather than let one game totally write him off before he's even fricking interviewed.

He's already been interviewed. And highly enough though of to have had jobs at SHSU, Slippery Rock, Youngstown State, Southern Illinois, Minnesota-Duluth, LaSalle and William Paterson University.

I mean, why about that makes you think he can come in year 1 and put up points on LSU, Alabama, etc... His one big game on prime time ESPN, where he knows he being watched by Ole Miss, trying to impress his future employer and that's what he does. When the pressure is on, his offense puts up 7 points... If he is the guy, I hope he works out. But I'd be willing to bet that the odds of him having our offense back to a NY6 bowl level are pretty slim.

You had never even heard of the guy until yesterday, yet you know his scheme and game planning won't work because of 1 bad game? That's ridiculous. Sam Houston had a bad game all around, not just Longo's offense. If he had put up 35 pts last night everyone would be whacking off to the thought of hiring the next Chip Kelly.

I personally like the idea of scrapping the RPO and going more Running-AirRaid

And he hasn't formally been interviewed yet per the mods btw

He could have put up 100 last night and I still wouldn't be thrilled with this hire. He may very well be a good OC. So let him go prove that for a season or two at rice or Arkansas state. How is he and his offense going to react when Alabama starts throwing exotic blitzes at him

So if Longo had come from Rice or ArkySt, you'd be cool with it. But not from Sam Houston, who is one of the top programs in FCS?

That makes sense

I think the guy is better than what they showed last night, but IMO we should and could get someone a heck of a lot better and that has FBS experience

With the same stats? Yes. Someone with some real D1 experience, who understands what it takes to recruit and run an offense at the FBS level. Not someone who will have to learn on the fly what it takes to compete every week in the SEC, or even just the FBS level

This offensive coordinator could only manage to get his team to score 7 points after the other team was already up 50-60 pts, against a team ranked below them.

I think a lot of people on this board are in denial of what is going to happen

Yep. It's about to get bad IMO. Grant leaving rumblings kinda made it real to me. Not that I think he's a wonderful position coach or anything but I really saw him being here forever. Former player with his brother also in the athletic department...wife has a job at the school... Seemed like a perfect world

We may be parting w/ any coaches who have been accused or found to have committed violations. One thing about Werner that hasn't been discussed is the fact that he was a pro set guy up until he was hired by Freeze. Maybe Freeze meddles in the offense because Werner does not fully grasp it. Not sure why there is so much discussion of the OC hire in the recruiting thread.

Heard didn't bring much to the table recruiting or coaching wise - he might of been let go regardless of the IU job.

Gee Chief, I wonder if that ins't something to be worried about.

No, because of the same reason we dislike him, he still hasn't proven himself with the big boys.

FFS, Bjork said we have the money, why go after this guy. There are better OCs who actually play against P5 teams we can get.

It's Freeze hire. He knows what is on the line. Let the man do his job.

When Freeze was hired everyone wanted a bunch of names and most had no clue who Hugh Freeze was.

I understand the game last night wasn't great but can you judge a guys career off of one game?

People worked up and aren't even sure this guy has the job for sure.

Dores, the good news is 95% of the OM fanbase isn't keeping up with the potential day-to-day hires Freeze may or may not make. I'm willing to bet the vast majority don't even know we've lost a single coach.
