If McGriff can bring James Willis with him it would be good. Coached under Saban and recruited well at Bama and Auburn.

My question on McGriff is: does he truly know his Xs & Os or is he just a kick arse recruiter.

I want a DC that can scheme, I want a DC that can make changes and adapt at half time.

McGriff has a great looking resume, minus the lack of DC experience (although he was technically a co-DC while at OM). But everyone got to start somewhere

I say we hire whichever coach is necessary to whatever position is necessary from IMG to get all of their LBs

For reals though it'd be nice if the best guy also had a couple of LBs tied to him

I saw somebody post that McGriff might help with CJ Avery. Anybody else?

You don't stick around in the NFL if you don't have X & O knowledge and ability to adjust. He'd likely still be there if the Saint D hadn't imploded under "Little Big Ryan".

I won't be upset with mcgriif considering the circumstances surrounding our program as long as he brings with him some Xs and Os junky that can scheme and really understands all that. The man was a force with DBs and recruiting.

He didn't stick around in the NFL though. He lasted 3 years and his secondary was especially bad.

3 years is longer than anyone currently on the Ole Miss staff. And considering under Ryan that beside Gallette they had no way to pressure a QB without bringing a blitz...

Long story short he will be much better than a Wommack as long as he gets some solid assistants.

Just because he can coach a position doesn't mean he can scheme and organize a defense as a whole. I would MUCH rather hire a coordinator who we actually have a sample on. I don't understand hiring a career DB coach to fix the worst rush defense I've ever seen. It's an extremely risky hire.

Knowing our luck, McGriff will be named and the contract signed only to have the NCAA announce that they're opening an investigation from his previous stint at Ole Miss which leads to a two year investigation and eventual show casue. We are Ole Miss after all.

I personally don't want McGriff at DC either. The guy can recruit which definitely will help the talent issue. I'm just not aware how much experience he has developing a game plan.

You also can't tell me that Bjork advises Freeze we will open the checkbook to get it right and we hire a positions coach and that's it. I need more. Otherwise Freeze deserves all the criticism he gets.

At this point I can only believe they've been told no by established DCs they've gone after. Nobody worth a shite is going to come here with this NCAA stuff unless it's someone trying to make a name for themselves. That's the only way I can rationalize hiring mcgriff.

Read on the OMSpirit that McGriff coached CJ Avery's dad and that CJ is very close with McGriff.

Boy that would get to the State guys flipping Avery because they've been counting him in for months.

I think if we hire McGriff that Avery is a lock.
