Why is Jesus always depicted with long flowing hair?

Practicing Jews in the first century wore their hair in a close-cropped manner as long haired males were considered unclean and not allowed in the temple. Leviticus commands men to not let their hair grow long. Even Peter's letters to the early churches refer to long hair on a man was "shameful".
I just find it odd that all popular media portrayals of Jesus have him sporting shoulder-length hair. No historical figure meeting the criteria for being Jesus would have had hair like that.

Because I already know why he is depicted as white. There is no good reason to depict him as having long hair however, especially since we know from history anybody even remotely resembling the character of Jesus would have actively avoided long hair.

He's from 2015 years ago (or something like that) I always assumed people back then always had long hair since they didn't exactly have any place to get a haircut that often. A better question would be why people show him as white

Scissors had already been around for over a thousand years when Jesus lived, and cutting utensils much longer than that. Most people just cut their own hair.

Because when Christianity was the only religion in Europe and people were painting a lot, most of the artists never saw a person from the middle east so they probably thought he looked like a white European.

Jesus was the original hippie. Makes sense to me to see him in free-flowing locks.

I saw a documentary on the History Channel a few months back that depicted Jesus as resembling the typical Eastern Mediterranean of his time.
