Why do people chain their pets up?

Or put them in, slightly larger, cages within their yards?

Why not get "runners"?

Is it too hard to attach a couple of bolts to your surroundings and run a small piece of wire in order to give your dog 20 more feet of life?

Would you like to be put in a small space to live for the rest of your life?

Why are people doing this?

Is it really that expensive to treat animals with this level of respect, or are people just lazy and inconsiderate assholes?

I am thinking $20-$30.

Dunno. Seems like people shouldn't get a dog if they're gonna chain it up. I have a border collie Aussie Shepard mix and she just roams the house while I'm gone. Never messes anything up and opens the sliding door to go outside when she needs to go to the bathroom.

I live in a nice neighborhood, but people cage their dogs up outside for years and all they (their dogs) do is bark day and night for attention.

I can't freaking stand it.

Should I go to Home Depot and buy a runner for them?

Would that be rude?

It sounds like you really take care of your dog. Nice job. I would do the same. I don't have pets, but I respect them and I can't stand something being caged up for life.

I think I am just going to buy the stuff in the morning.

Do you think that my neighbors will retaliate somehow?

I am just going to leave the supplies on their front porch.

I really hate to see dogs on chains, even if they are taken care of.

I built a runner for my dogs, not a long chain, but I fenced in an area of my backyard, 30' wide and 180' long for them to have to stretch their legs, then when I get home from work I let them out into the main yard while I'm home.

Its a holdover from the old days. People today forget that dogs weren't treated like full fledged citizens back in the day. My grandfather would have sooner put a bullet in his own head than let a dog in the house. And if you thought the dog would run off or get into trouble you chained them outside. Would you rather they locked them in the house by themselves for 10 ours a day while you are at work? My dog would prefer the chain. They also kept animals and people out of your stuff, like your chicken coop.

Not saying I like it but dog on a chain is not necessarily abused.

Why chain the dog or even put them on a runner? Tractor Supply sells the in-ground or invisible fence systems for about $170-230. Chaining an animal is cruel

They don't give a shite and it's absolutely a direct reflection of the kind of fricked up human being they are.

You all would haaaate my sister. She's the fricking worst about this stuff. She's not even a bad person just completely ignorant about it all.

When she had one on a tree she'd go out every once in a while and unwrap it. Unreal.

Luckily you have a smart dog. Though those herders can also have too much energy for most dog owners. Sounds like you have a good one.

Why don't you tell your sister that she is "ignorant " on this. She might think she is doing good.

It depends on how big or small the kennel is, and how free the dog actually is when "let" out. Some people just set them out in the yard a forget them for months until they think that they should "get around" to making their pet happy.

Wish that worked for human beings...for better or for worse.

I hear you man. I have seen alot of "wrapped" up dogs around trees.

They literally are all whining for mercy because the are just both energetic and stupid at the same time.

Pre-School children are the same. But we don't put them on chains.

I don't know why but it really hits my buttons.

I put the bag on the porch of my neighbors this morning and it was gone when I got home from work at 8 tonight.

I didn't hear or see the dog, but it is raining pretty hard at the moment.

Please don't get the wrong idea in thinking I am spying on my neighbors either, lol.

I just heard that dog bark for literally hours and hours and got tired of hearing it.

Thanks guys for your opinions!

Can I have your stuff after your neighbors kill you and feed you to their dog?

I keep a dog on the weekends. I keep him on a leash inside of a fenced in backyard. The leash is long enough where he can roam almost the entire back yard, but should he learn to dig holes, he can't get free.

Good for you. Hopefully it made them feel stupid and I hope despite that, they actually used it.

I used to have a friend in Georgia who was part of a group dedicated to emancipating chained up dogs. Only those that they deemed were being neglected or abused, mind you. Some didn't have water or food or even shade. A few big dogs that were in tiny cages were liberated, too.

I now have friends here in Kentucky that do the same thing although business is much slower. I think dogs must be more valued and respected here than they are in metro Atlanta.
