God, you know the Guy whose image I was made in, gave me multiple cannabinoid receptors and a plant that has cannabiboids. Sorry you haven't figured out intelligent design yet.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I enjoy a good Merlot as well as the next person.

This doesn't answer the original question.

Getting drunk with friends is fun. If getting drunk with your friends isn't fun, get new friends.

Fine... I smoke because I live in a world where 0.5% of the people are as intelligent as I am. It's hard to deal with an average population intelligence 2 standard deviations below mine. If I couldn't smoke I'd rage on the ignorance that exudes from this planet and its people. Not sorry for partying, and for the record my dad was a preacher so your moral high ground makes me lol. So tell me why I shouldn't consume cannabis and cannabis related products... and don't try me with smoking is bad for health, because you clearly don't have to smoke it to get its effects.

Yes, I do believe that drunkenness is immoral for lots of reasons with the least not being the effect it has on family and relationships. You claim to get high (drink) in order to cope with people who cannot deal with your superior intelligence. I call bullshite.

What is the greatest reason, then?

The effect it has on family and relationship may be tops. Heck, let's just put it there until something better comes along.

Do you believe it to be impossible or improbable to consume alcohol (or other substances) in moderation?

Of course it's possible. My question is, looking back to the original post, why do folks get drunk?

Chemistry and a desire to partake in a socially accepted mode of intoxication.

You surely know this, and are simply being a pissant.

This isn't an explanation, it's an observation of the actions of many. What benefit does drunkenness provide those who are proud and loud about their excessive drinking?

Experiencing altered states of consciousness is appealing to certain people and unappealing to others. Some take it too far, some don't. Consider the Vervet monkeys in the Carribean islands that developed a taste for fermented sugarcane. They go and steal people's drinks now because they love getting hammered and it doesn't have a damned thing to do with maturity (or you, for that matter).
