And Jay destroyed Nas in that battle. Jigga made fun of Nas's business sense, Nas made fun of his mustache. Look how that turned out for both of them.

Shady messes with royce tho
right around 2001/2002ish royce was trying to get on shady aftermath by eminem said that it wasnt the right time. he promptly turned around and signed 50 like a month later. they then started going after one another for years until they finally made up and thats when they finally released hell the sequel as bad meets evil in 2011

This all started on the Anger Management Tour, where Royce had been writing lines for Eminem and other D12 members, including Proof. As they read the lines one of D12 thought Royce was subliminally dissing the tour, therefore he's dissing them. Eminem was convinced by this and didn't use the lines. Also Eminem didn't call Royce to see if this was true. Instead he just stayed mad at Royce. In a recent interview with HipHopSite Royce explains that he wasn't dissing the tour or Eminem, but Eminem was certain he was. This was not a bother to Royce as it was a simple misunderstanding. What bothered Royce was the fact that Eminem didn't call to see if this was true. Royce explained that, that's not how he treats his friends and for that, if Eminem does choose to dislike Royce now, it doesn't bother him at all.
Also in the same interview Royce tells us that he once tried to get onto Shady Records. Only when he called Eminem told Royce he was to busy at the time, with The Eminem Show almost done, the 8 Mile film and also working with D12 and Obie Trice. This was understandable and Royce excepted it. 1 week later Eminem signs 50 Cent.

It's really not even a debate. Several years later Jay was Nas's boss. And he gave voice to a lot of shite people had been saying a/b Nas for years:
quote:
Can't y'all, see that he's fake, the rap version of TD jakes
Prophesizing on your CDs and tapes
Won't break you a crumb of the little bit that he makes
And this is with whom you want to place your faith?
I put dollars on mine, ask Columbine
When the Twin Towers dropped, I was the first in line
Donating proceeds off every ticket sold
When I was out on the road, that's how you judge Hov, no?
Ain't I supposed to be absorbed myself?
Every time there's a tragedy, I'm the first one to help
They call me this misogynist, but they don't call me the dude
To take his dollars to give gifts at the projects
These dudes is all politics, depositing checks
they put in they pocket, all you get in return is a lot of lip
And y'all buy the shite, caught up in the hype
Cause the **** wear a coofie, it don't mean that he bright
Cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice
It just means you don't understand all the bullshite that he write
Is it "Oochie Wally Wally" or is it "One Mic"?
Is it "Black Girl Lost" or shorty owe you for ice?

But yeah I guess Nas did make fun of him for being a karate class
quote:
So yeah I sampled your voice, you was usin it wrong
You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song
And you ain't get a coin ****, you was gettin fricked then
I know who I paid God, Searchlite Publishing
But yeah I guess Nas did make fun of him for being a karate class

Realest lines of the whole battle:
the whole third verse of ether just eviscerates jay z and i dont even know where to begin
quote:
Y'all ****s deal with emotions like bitches
What's sad is I love you cause you're my brother
You traded your soul for riches
My child, I've watched you grow up to be famous
And now I smile like a proud dad watchin' his only son that made it
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child? Scared to smile? They called you ugly?
Well life is harsh; hug me, don't reject me
Or make records to disrespect me, blatant or indirectly
quote:
In '88 you was getting chased through your building
Callin' my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was give you a style for you to run with
Smiling in my face, glad to break bread with the God
Wearing Jaz chains, no Tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase
You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan
I still whip your arse; You thirty-six in a karate class?
quote:
R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick
J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick
Your whole damn record label gunned up and clapped quick
Shawn Carter to Jay-Z - damn, you on Jaz dick!
So little shorty's getting gunned up and clapped quick
How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips?
Wanted to be on every last one of my classics
You pop shite, apologize, ****, just ask Kiss

Nas hit him w/ some funny lines, no doubt. I used to think Nas got him, too, but in retrospect it was b/c the expectations for Nas to come back in any form were so low. He had never spit anything like that before in his life so when Ether dropped it was a revelation.
But years later I see the light. Jay went after Nas's business sense. And he turned out right. Nas's line a/b BIG's rhymes makes me laugh; Jay's lines a/b Nas not owning the rights to his own songs makes me say whoa.
Also those bars a/b dissing women and Nas "clapping" people are so cringey and corny it hurts.

No. Nas not only coined "ethering" someone, but also "renegading" someone (Em murdered you on your on shite) IN THE SAME SONG. Even Jay later had to recognize Nas was right about Em.
And I never said they still have a beef, but Jay definitely took Nas's style. I think he later perfected it, but when Ether came out, Jay was no where near Nas.
I haven't really listened to Big KRIT. What should I start with?
