holding my composure during Taps was heartbreaking.

Being close to your granddad is special. I miss both of mine badly and they've both been dead 25 years. My moms dad taught me to fish and hunt. Every time I do either, he is on my mind.

May 24, 2011. That is the last real day I cried like a baby. I was at work, in a secure environment for the AF, so no cell phone. My wife tells me on gmail to call my mom, cause my mom just called her and she could not get her back. I go out to get my cell and call my dad first, went to voice mail. Called my mom next, went to voice mail. Called my brother, he said he couldnt talk right now and was tearing up. I was starting to really freak out at this point. My mom calls back and tells me my dad just died from a heart attack. I cry in the middle of the hall without giving a damn. Co-workers and other ppl in the hallway coming by were freaked out. After a few minutes a co-worker finally asked what happened and I was able to mumble out about my dad and my phone rang again and he answered it. I think it was my mom and she told him what happened, my dad had pretty much dropped dead from a major heart attack at the age of 60. After 20-30 minutes I am finally able to calm down a little and go back into the office and get my jacket/things and leave. My boss said to just leave and he would do my time card, etc. The looks of everyone has I was leaving hit home too. Several of the women in the office were tearing up or already crying. I cried on and off the next couple of days while we buried him and went through his things. I still find something of his when I go home and start to tear up.

The last time I had tears of joy was March 25 last year, when my daughter was born. One of the happiest days of my life.

The older I get, the more things touch me emotionally

This is me. From a youtube video with a Autistic kid sinking 3 pointers in his only game, singing certain hymns at church that I can still hear my Grandmother's voice in my head singing or saying the blessing at Thanksgiving with all of my family there. I'll get the lump in the throat and a little misty.

People are always cutting onions around me when these things happen.

Reading this thread

The old me never cried. I just put up walls and dealt with what was in front of me at the time. Since my grandsons were born 2 years ago I will cry at the drop of a hat. Anything that causes them real pain will just put me to sobbing like a teenage girl.
