Get an internship, co-op, something. Co-op may be difficult with your GPA, but maybe you can find something.

I'm headed into my senior year as ChemE, about to wrap up my final co-op term. Co-op was one of the best decisions I made. The work experience is invaluable, and the $25/hr makes going back to college that much more enjoyable.

Yeah I know it's not great but to be honest Lsu's engineering program is full of teachers that can't teach but I guess that's life.

At LSU. At Texas A&M we take education seriously.

Yet you can't even bust into the big 3 of the SEC. Need to re-evaluate your strategy.

That's what I plan on doing I don't have a bright gpa but Im really good with people so I use the interviews to my advantage but I plan on definitely gettig an internship that pays pretty well for next summer

I feel like this is a common fall back, but far from the truth. The truth of the matter is GPA is one of about 30 things someone will look at, but it is about maintaining a minimum, at which point, you won't even get an interview. 2.5 won't get you through a lot of doors to even see an interview. I work with LSU grads, A&M grads, Alabama grads, tu grads, etc. All over. Some with shitty majors, some withe great majors, it is all non-important once you sign up and get in the door.

As far as advice, get in to the oil and gas industry. You're a ME, so try to get on at a service company as a field engineer. Field experience is probably the best thing you can do to mitigate a low GPA and you'll be really far ahead of a lot of people that went straight to a desk job.

Found out recently I'm getting a job offer as well, so that's nice

Congrats. I've spent my summer at an Ag Chem plant. Still a year away from any serious interships or co-op work though.

Best advice given so far.

That experience will help a lot with landing a co-op. Which, by the way, you should definitely do if you were on the fence. Provided your schedule allows for it. More internships are nice, but a Fall/Spring co-op rotation allows ya more time to learn. Also, if you get on with a company that has multiple locations I would def suggest asking about rotating between them. It's what I got to do and I got to see three totally different processes which was really cool.

I want to do a F/S Co-op but I'm going to be graduating at 27 as it stands, thus I'm a little weary of taking more time to get there. I certainly think it would be helpful though.

It is a choice, not a problem. That is the good thing about having a paycheck every two weeks. You aren't ever broke for too long.

Oh to be in your early 20's again.

Wait until you have a mortgage, private school for your kid(s), savings, retirement, vacations, etc... to pay for and you're at least in your mid 30's. You'll look back on saying this and

Yeah I'm no help there. Co-op/internship experience really only helps with landing your first job, but it helps a lot.

Oh i get that completely. I'm saying it isn't a problem right now, which is why I am still financially responsible. I'll start saving once I move up, and have spent a little time blowing my extra cash. Right now me saving something out of my paycheck wouldn't really even accomplish very much in the long run.

Disagree. 401k should be getting at least 10%, employess stock purchase plans if offered should be maxed, roth IRA should get maxed out, at a very minimum.
