In all honesty, it's a disparity in learning that takes place at home. A kid starting school in a middle class home with two parents who are both college educated starts at a higher level than a kid who comes from a lower/working class, single parent family. Generally speaking, your middle class children show up to grade school already knowing how to read, write, and count while the poorer children are playing catch-up. The middle class children, as they advance in school, continue to receive tutoring at home (having parents sit down and coach them through homework), while the lower class kids, again, fall behind because the parent in the house hold either doesn't have time due to working two or more jobs or they lack the education to help their kids understand their assignments.

Basically, Public Education is bullshite these days and MOST kids who will go on to succeed either receive a lot of help from home or from a mentor, if they cannot receive it at home. Drive and will does play a factor, but those who come from family situations that encourage academic growth and development are naturally going to do better and likely go further.

Standardized tests are skewed to benefit white America. The wording of the questions reflects the culture and privilege of whites, and thus African Americans do not respond as well to the testing.

There should be separate, but equal tests that are given to African Americans that do more to reflect their unique culture, and as a result we will have a better educated general population.

I do see where you are going here, but in reality, America's education system as a whole is trailing many countries.

There isn't much "quality" education unless maybe in private schools, although I don't really know how good they are.

That is a terrible idea. Separation in schools would just further the divide. I always get a little uneasy when people say "black culture" or "African American community," because that implies that they are a separate entity.

Alot of black people live in poverty and lack an education, that is just statistical fact. But it does not have to be that way. I know plenty of black people who have risen up from terrible situations, and that is the first step. Unfortunately, alot of kids look to professional athletes as a way to live their lives. But we as a society have come to a point where we refuse to be honest with kids. They see guys like JR Smith and Rajon Rondo and don't understand that they aren't real life. I hear the phrase "being real." It is easy to "be real" and not care about your appearance when you are making millions in the NBA. But 99.99% of kids won't ever have that happen.

So how to dress, and look, and speak, and act, it all matters. That is the message that needs to be sent to kids.

Edit: Don't have kids, but if I did, they would absolutely be attending private schools.

It's not a race problem, it's a class problem. I fault no one for the situation they were born into, and it's nothing anyone should be made to feel ashamed of. The fact remains, though, that people from lower income, single parent families are at a natural disadvantage.

No shite. But people from Mississippi aren't allowed to make those jokes. It's like Germans joking about Jews.

And of course I was joking, but sadly that joke is a very real opinion, to an extent, held by self proclaimed progressives.

Because Arkansas was a racial beacon and is currently comedy capital of the mid-south. That still doesn't change the fact that you have no sense of humor.
