We had this place in Berkeley close to campus that served carnitas pork burritos. Put some pico de gallo and white cheese in those babies, and you had all of your basic food groups covered.

I ate some Hamburger Helper recently for the first time since college. That stuff is not how I remember. The seasoning is gross.

At USC, I would go to an all you can eat buffet on Friday afternoon (hell yeah, Doc's and Palmetto Pig), and eat until I was almost sick. I'd try and see if I could make it until Sunday dinner at the frat house.
Lizard's Thicket was a treat, but a decent and full meal for around 7 bucks.
First job out of college was in pro sports, and we could take the leftovers from the catering/craft services. Just about can't eat Fazoli's nowadays, cos they were one of our sponsors.

Chickfila on Auburn's campus. Student meal plan saved my butt some days.

Used to be a Mr Gattis pizza place right off Chimes. My roommate and I would go there after class and fill our school bags up with pizza and eat for a week in Power dorm.

I lived off of Guthrie's chicken tenders, the rotation of restaurants doing 10 cent wings, and my apartment was less than a block away from Arby's, McDonalds, and Dominos while I was Auburn. This was in the early 90's. Apartment was a lil 6 unit right at the beginning of Old Fraternity Row.

We used to catch catfish out of the Oconee River in Dudley Park and trade them to the hobos for some of their food they got from the shelter. The hobos cooked that shite up under the bridge on North Ave.

I worked and had the GI Bill so I ate whatever I wanted and didn't have to live like a Syrian refugee.

I lived on a golf course in Boca Raton, FL.
Drove a brand new Mustang GT and had a Harley.
I'm pretty sure I balled.

Smoking wasnt a social stigma and was heavily advertised on TV, Radio and in print. Your parents likely smoked as did your grandparents at least at one point in their lives.
Even the military encouraged smoking. The concept of "smoke em if ya got em" played into it. Smokers got smoke breaks. Those who didnt smoke kept working. Coffee and a cigarette was an acceptable meal substitute for a lot of people.
Hell I remember in 1988 my company had a small office in a building with a Japanese bank. Landlord wanted to take the building non smoking, but couldnt yet becuase it wasnt the law. So they had a vote. Smokers won. Largely due to the Jap bank and our little 5 person office who all smoked!
Well said. I'm old enough to remember Mickey Mantle in a cigarette ad, sitting in the Yankees locker room after a game, relaxing with a cigarette. Also similar magazine ads with real doctors relaxing in their office with a smoke. In college early 70's some professors would you smoke during class, you just had to bring your own ash tray! Smoking was truly cool for several decades.
Couldn't find the Mantle pic, but here's his famous team mate, Roger Maris.

Totino's party pizzas were perfect because they are small enough to cook in a toaster oven

And use ground turkey, only the stuff you can see in the package
As for college I ate a lot of meals at the frat house and worked at Guthrie's for a decent amount of time...none of my friends starved when I was getting off work
Also Subway buy one 12 inch get one free was always a great deal for 4 lunches

on that note, the Checkers in Athens near campus had a deal for $0.49 burgers on Sundays. I'd go and buy about 8 of em and eat for the next several days.
