I found them a bit legalistic back when I was a Christian.

With that attitude, you exude the antithesis of a Christian. The very reason that many are turned off by church....hypocrisy at its worst. You are supposed to go to worship and fellowship with other believers to strengthen your own relationship with Yeshua, yet, you are more concerned with what people are wearing. I promise you, Yahweh and his son Yeshua are far more dis-honored by the judging heart of a suit and tie hypocrite than by the casual dress of the truly faithful. Guess those poorly dressed disciples who journeyed with Yeshua and suffered with him were bad people. Sure he wished he could have dumped them for the ornately dressed Pharisees in a second...right.

There's a special place in hell for the people that only show up at church for Christmas and Easter. I tell my wife all the time, either we are going to church or we aren't. We never get there....

I feel bad for the people that think Osteen is preaching the gospel.

Thread makes me feel less guilty about not going to church.

Actually in truth I feel guilty that I don't feel guilty about not going to church.

Agreed. I think there is a very dark corner in heaven for him if his heart is truly right on judgment day.

My BiL and SiL are moving to Houston and she's excited about visiting his church.

It's hypocritical and an insult to our Lord IMO.

Good choices. And lots of bad theology up in here.

Some truth in here. More churches seem to be turning into nothing more than a country club for the "holy"

Settle down Cotton Mather... People don't have to go to church to get to heaven.

He doesnt seem all that likable, but watching pastors rail against one of their own for teaching the "wrong" version of an arbitrary religious belief always make me laugh a little.

Its like children arguing over which of their imaginary friends is stronger.

See, this is what Im talking about. John Macarthur believes 1.2 billion catholics are going to hell because they believe the wrong things about Jesus.

First, I cant imagine going through life worshipping a god who you believe will send almost everyone, including half his own followers, to hell. Second, doesnt it get old being told by old men what is and is not the correct way to interpret your bible?

Depends on ones view of what hell is. I don't believe in the fire and brimstone version of hell. Hell is eternal separation from God. The eternal despair of knowing there is nothing that can change that separation. That is bad enough. Don't need the symbolism of a fiery hell to scare me. Eternal separation is enough.

Okay, sending half his followers to eternal separation from him. Point still stands

I will say though that the christian message isnt nearly as powerful if you remove the physical torture of hell. If God exists, we are "separated" from him in this life and most people dont consider it too terrible. Id imagine you evangelized with that message, many would just prefer to spend eternity separated from him like they are now than devoting their lives to him,
