Well, with the republicans still not making any strong gains with minorities, Texas will probably go democrat in 2024 for federal elections. Though, like Florida, it's so gerrymandered, that republicans will still hold control over the state elections.

Senate districts aren't gerrymandered and the Republican party just took control of that body.

MASSACHUSETTS of all places elected a Republican governor the last cycle. New Jersey's done it twice now.

You mentioned minorities. Hispanics are by far the largest growing population. The Republican party got 40% of that vote in Texas in 2014. They're one good immigration policy away from becoming very attractive to the majority of those Hispanic voters in Texas. If they could simply expand to get 40% or better of the Hispanic vote nationwide, they'd almost be guaranteed a presidential win.

You're making the same mistake many people have made by looking at last election cycles to predict future results and you just can't do that. As others have said, these things are cyclical and change as the mood of the country and hot button issues change.

Politics are cyclical, so it's more likely that in 20 years Republicans have a firm hold on things while Democrats are outcasts mocked by mainstream group-think.

That's just it. Republics are falling out of touch with mainstream group-think.

Most Republicans are associated with Christianity.

quote:

86 percent of Americans in 1990 identified as Christians, by 2007, that was down to 78 percent. Today only 7 in 10 say they are Christians. But the percentage of those describing themselves as atheists, agnostics or nonbelievers has risen to 23. That exceeds the Catholic population and is only slightly below evangelicals.

Democrats are viewed as the "poor man's party". The poor is increasing in this country. 2+2

It amazes me at the bigoted little pukes in here attacking you even though they have never listened to Alfonzo 'Zo' Rachel.

Zo Rachel is far more astute and intelligent than any of these idiots attacking you.

That is a difficult issue. National security is a fundamental idea for conservatives, as it should be for any government IMO, and border patrol is a big part of that.

I don't consider myself conservative, more Libertarian.
I don't think it's right to demonize any group of immigrants, or to persecute or punish them. If you are truly seeking asylum or a better life, and you are willing to work for it, then that is what this country is founded on. You have every right to live here and I welcome you.

Unless it's absolutely necessary for your safety or to get here, like Cubans, then I do think it's wrong to sneak across the border in the middle of the night. Especially if you are just going to do the same things here that you left behind in your old country, or come here just expecting to be given things or have the full rights of citizens that have lived here their whole lives or have worked for that. Yes, our ancestors were immigrants too, but they had to work hard for the American Dream.

I think it should be made easier to immigrate here and eventually earn citizenship, while also securing the border more to encourage people to immigrate the right way.

The problem with population of Hispanic immigrants in this country is that so many are undocumented. Most are here doing the right thing like everybody else in this country, but if the government has no records of your existence then how can we be sure of that? Even if we are sure you're a model member of society, if you are undocumented then you shouldn't have a say so in the government. You aren't tied to the government in anyway and you don't pay taxes, so why should you have any say so in what the government does and what my tax dollars are spent on? Unfortunately as of now, a large but unknown portion of Hispanic immigrants fall into that category and shouldn't be able to vote IMO.

and speaking of voting, that's one system that needs some major reforms in this country. It's a known fact that people are bused around in large groups to different polling places to vote several times. Dead people are somehow voting in masses. Voter fraud is a very serious issue that Dems never seem to want to talk about, probably because most of it seems to be perpetrated by them.

Do American Blacks have any idea that they are universally despised by Blacks in every other country on earth?

All my friends from Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Bahamas, Guiana, Venezuela, Tribadad & Tobago all look down with disgust on the "African American".

Weren't a lot of those Africans from tribes that sold American blacks into slavery? If I was black, I'd go tell them to frick themselves.

No not at all. Many many many more African skaves made it to the Caribbean and South America.

Haiti and Brasil probably had more imported slaves in 10 years of peak sugar cane farming than North America combined in 200 odd years of slavery.

I'm a democrat and I promise you neither me nor my family ever needed the Govt. But come to SWMO and you'll see A LOT of republicans relying on the state and feds. Look at the poverty Map, SWMO have more people living in poverty than STL and KCMO(where the blacks/dems live) and SWMO is heavily republican. The Democrat area of the state have less people in poverty.

Many of that generation had the same belief. One of my favorite "holy cow" stories was my grandmother riding (horseback) up and down Miami Beach encountering only a house or two among the coconuts and mosquitoes. We had a family place down there until a few years ago and it is staggering to think how much it changed in less than a lifetime.

This also describes me. Are you my dad?

My grandma used to tell me that when she was younger, the Miami hotels would give tourists their money back if the thermometer ever hit 90. Before it was a massive city, it was a (literally) much cooler place.

Him and his Dad probably.

So is it true that Southerners like blacks as individuals but not the race as whole and Northerners like the black race as a whole but not as individuals. j/k

I didn't see the Caribbean countries listed. And I've heard the same thing many times.

Though I find it pretty hypocritical in a lot of situations. There's an absurd amount of violent crime and corruption, so shouldn't they hate their own people too?

Which is what brings it back to being a socio-economic situation. Most if the Africans who come here a from upper class African families (though occasionally you end up with a lost boys situation, but that's pretty rare). I'm sure they think American blacks have wasted opportunities. But they are pretty ignorant about the history of black people in America. Slavery has been over for 150 years, segregation for fifty. But institutionalized racism is a much more recent problem. And by the recent police scandals, it doesn't appear to be over.

True, there's upper/middle class blacks in this country that look down upon lower class blacks. Happens all the time. I promise you those immigrant blacks aren't looking down upon black doctors, lawyers, black business owners, police officers, fire fighters, soldiers, etc. They look down upon the gangs, thugs, welfare people living off the govt. Upper and middle class blacks do the same to the inner city or poor ones.

1. Last I checked lots and lots and lots of Nigerians running with our boys after Mujahids from AFG to The PI.

2. We'd be damn lucky if we turned our Mud People problem in Africa over to whatever is left of Rhodesuan SAS.
