He's doing a pretty good job of that on his own. He bitched about companies sending jobs to China and Mexico and his clothing line is made in China and Mexico.

He didn't finish college. End of discussion. Right or wrong, the field is too crowded. And when the field is crowded, people look for reasons to exclude you as a candidate than include you as a candidate.
People want to dismiss Walker not having a degree, but I think that would be hung around his neck in a general election. The first slip-up he made would magnified because of that.

When you put Jeb or Rubio up against Hilllary, their argument is "well, we're not Hillary." There's no positive argument there.
If done right, I think Rubio could have a pretty effective campaign. He'd provide a great contrast to Hillary on many levels. Jeb, on the other hand, is just asking for trouble. Nothing would energize the Left more than nominating another Bush. It would just feed the narrative they want to push.
Losers like Jindal, Pataki, Huckabee, Cruz, Santorium, etc. need to hit the road. They don't stand a chance but they're just sucking up oxygen from others in this race. Having a field this big is probably going to lead to a nominee limping out of the primaries.

On immigration, some middle ground between amnesty and kicking them out is where the only answers lie. Some mixture of a long path to citizenship, expanded guest worker visa program, and stronger enforcement of immigration laws. We want them documented, but we must remember you can't fight economics.

You are absolutely correct but there is no way these republicans are smart enough to leave it at that. They just can't help themselves

Many are and will be smart enough to avoid it but there are points to be made from the desperate candidates. Somebody is going to make it an issue, even though the answer is obvious to avoid it.

I told this to the people i work with (all very liberal, I'm a moderate with slightly right leans), and they were irate with me, but I believe it's true:
The people on the left think the GOP ticket is garbage. The people on the right think the Democrats running are garbage. The funny thing is, they're both right.

I agree. I don't think Sanders is garbage, but I also don't think he's a great candidate. Same with Rubio.

The thing is, I don't think the GOPs field is that bad but overall they have a lot more clunkers than not. The Dems have a shite field but it's because there's one presumptive nominee.

Lets talk Carly - girl can handle it.
Dr. Carson - we can use good men like him.
Trump is a nut, but the electorate is ready for someone who will say what they think for a change. Ross Perot kinda thang

i mean it doesn't matter because the Republicans don't have a real shot at the presidency. It's Hillary's race to lose.
If Sanders gets the democratic nomination he'll win the presidency too. The Republicans have become the party of right wing nut jobs, racists, and zealots, and their base is literally dying off.

The GOP field's literally better than it has been maybe since Reagan left office. For the first time in a long, long time you've got a bunch of contending candidates that are young, charismatic, and have the potential to appeal to non-typical GOP voters.
As you noted, the Democrats are the ones with that problem right now. They've got Hillary, and old hippie, and O'Malley. O'Malley's got the tools, but he might not be able to put together a national game in time.

This is what you get from a changing demographic that forces a political party to change their approach. It's creative destruction if you will. It's why I'm so interested in the GOP side of the nomination battles, watching a party in transition change in real time.
May not yield a winner in the general, but the process is important for the future of the GOP.

Lets say that HRC is the Dem winner
Bush wins in a squeaker against Trump
Trump then goes Third Party
HRC wins in a romp
And I think she beats Bush one on one by 10% because the neo cons will stay home.

lol this is literally the worst GOP field I've ever seen.
McCain was the best hope the GOP had for winning. If he'd run now and pick a real VP candidate like. Rubio, he'd win. I'd vote for him over hillary in a heart beat.
These nutjobs have no chance.

I have a better chance of stealing Beyonce from Jay-Z than your hypothetical, but let's play the HRC vs GOPer game.
Vs Bush: It's a tough battle between two similar candidates that really aren't very different that neither base is happy about. Hillary isn't super charismatic or anything, probably handing Bush the likeability. Neither base gets excited and Jeb probably pulls it out imho.
Rubio is the monster Hillary doesn't want to see. He's young, attractive, charasmatic, and will be able to attract moderates that would vote D by default against a more conservative candidate. With a decent immigration platform, it's President Rubio.
Kasich has appeal with the pragmatic (I'm don't think this is the correct word, but my limits in language make this the best approximation) moderates. As 808 noted, isn't exactly Edwin Edwards up there. Clinton has the machine and Kasich isn't going to wow people. Loses a closer total vote race than the EC shows.
Rand Paul sets up to be another challenge for HRC. He has ammo to attack her on the left and push her that way to appease the base. He'll get TP types in with his conservative dream fiscal policy (compared to Ron Paul's we dream). The pro-defense elements will end up for Hillary and that would be his downfall. Tepid religious right support will seal the deal.
Finally Walker. His lack of a college degree will be a club used to beat Walker repeatedly to undercut his credability. Will be playing from farther right than any of the above candidates, leaving a big swath of moderates for Hillary to swipe up. If he were to get the nomination, how far right will he have gone? Haven't seen much from him yet, but he's got some money lined up that tells me he might be a good politician.
Outside of this group, Hillary wins in landslides.
All of this in my very humble opinion.

I think if this field had stayed at about 7, you'd be right. A field consisting of Bush, Rubio, Walker, Christie, Rand, Fiorina, and Kasich would've been pretty solid. Now its just a cluster.

Good post. I think your opinion 100% dead on except I think Hillary beats Jeb with all things being equal. Like you said, I think you're right that Rubio could give Hillary a really tough time and Walker would be a flawed candidate in the General Election.
