We did that and it worked. Problem is, we were in a shite school district, so we had to either put 3 kids in private school or move. We moved into a monstrosity of a house (we had paid off the other one). Mrs. Tantal says that once the older 2 kids are out (6 years) that she wants to sell it, move into a rent-free apartment with me being the Courtesy Officer, and hoard money until retirement.

You should give Dave Ramsey another shot. There's nothing quite like not owing anyone a dime. We got to do it for about a year before getting back into a mortgage.
