Is 100k bragging? Pretty sure I just advertised a middle class salary according to everybody here and peasant salary to the OTL.

600 a month on groceries is pretty high. I budget 300 a month and we have a full home cooked meal each night. We eat out once maybe twice on the weekends (which is budgeted).
Granted the wife is such a planner and sits down once a week and plans each meal. She also bargain shops.

I always wonder who makes in between 250k and 1 million. You don't hear much in that salary range advertised. Doctors in my area make 200k and except for a random few, they're the wealthiest people I hang out with. I only hear something like 700k for like a D1 baseball or mid major football coach.

Radiologists and Oncologists. Surgeons.

Senior Directors and low level VP's at large corporations.

The occassional HVAC guy that started with a van and a toolbox in 1995 and now has 100 vans in 23 cities in 9 states.

The average American makes 26k. I just find it funny you worked in how you make 74,000 more than that. I usually find it funny when anyone posts there salary.

First off. Haha.

Second, I think saying I started at 35k and moved to around that range of 100k isn't boasting, it's just saying starting at a crap salary and tripling it over time is livable, doable, and better can be achieved.

If it's bragging than I'll happily take it down. I just put an approximate #. I'm not proud of my salary by any means.

Just remember, it's a different world from when you were making $35k.

Another note on this guy, he doesn't like taking $700k as income because he gets raped in taxes, so he generally starts a side business in real estate and makes his money in equity.

I don't know where the magic mark is, but somewhere north of 75k the government starts noticing you are making money and starts taking it by the 10s of thousands. Im sure some CPA in here knows that amount.

So beyond a hard number, how would you define middle class then? Paying reasonable bills with careful planning but not stress? One vacation a year? Or is that reserved for upper middle class?

I was told with the entitlement packages I am currently getting and being eligible for grants, I am in fact middle class. However, some of the new EBT purchasing rules are starting to hamper my life style some.

I will be joining 47 Million others in a march on Washington to complain about the power states have in determining how I spend my EBT money.

Lots of surgeons, radiologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, dermatologists, etc. make well over 250-300k a year.

200k is on the low end for a full-time practitioner in anything but family medicine.

Guy who made the most money I can recall speaking with was an oral surgeon who did surgeries out of his own office. Had to get a DDS and MD.

Remember him telling us his malpractice insurance was something like 700k, couldn't imagine what he was clearing if that was his insurance.

I'm not one of those trying to champion a higher minimum wage. The term middle class is thrown around all the time and pretty vague. There are a lot of people who are considered to be upper middle class by the government who still struggle from time to time. Its all a matter of perspective, and i was honestly curious what people thought, outside of a government definition, middle class actually meant, or what it should mean.

Not proud of 100k salary. You don't have to justify anything you posted to me. I was just making an observation

The head of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at the Heart and Vascular Institute at Houston Memorial Hermann makes $1.2 million a year. The head of Orthopedics at Hermann makes just a little less.

When I did a preceptorship at Baylor in Dallas several years ago, I foundout one of the ortho surgeons who we saw the patients of post-op made 800k a year working 45-50 hours a week doing nothing but shoulder surgeries. Dude made almost a million for working five days a week.

My personal definition, and this would differ depending on geography.

lower middle class
you live in a house with compromises, shared bedrooms for the kids, AC sucks and the neighborhood is sketchy, it's just the house you live in until your ship comes in and you can get something more comfortable. But, you've never been late on payment. You have a good car and a shite car. The good car has a payment of $300 a month and full coverage, and the bad car is paid off. You have a great cable TV package with internet but that's only because they offered you a great bundle. You would have just ordered basic cable, but for another 5 bucks a month you get expanded. You always take a vacation each year, but it might just be an extended weekend. The hotel will suck and you will be making sandwiches for lunch on vacation. You are able to save about $400 per month but you do occassionally dip into it. You may carry a little bit of credit card debt, but it's mainly from repairs on that shitty car you refuse to replace and from the little vacations you thought you could afford.

middle middle class

Someone else define.... I gotta run

upper middle class

Someone else define.. I gotta run
