Our rowing team is a part of your former conference before then they were C-USA. Not everything makes sense.

I play at the IceArium. It's honestly a pretty well run rink. Definitely a practice facility for a D-1 team, though.

I'm not saying that the SEC is going to start sponsoring hockey as a varsity sport. But, with all the cash coming in via TV deals and marketing, universities will have to find ways to spend their budgets. A school such as Kentucky or UTK may just give it a shot.

^^I think if we ever went varsity we could split costs of laying down ice/prepping the Coliseum with the Ice Bears and schedule accordingly for the first few years. If it succeeded then UT would invest more. It took a while for our women's rowing to take off with fans and the university despite Oak Ridge being a premiere course and them being a top team in the nation but now we have a state of the art boat house on campus and use the Tennessee River a lot more (the Vol Navy docks beside the boat house on game days). One thing UT has plenty of is space - Knoxville is sprawl central so we could find a space nearby. But really I think the Coliseum would work fine for games.

Most of the new stuff that's been built out West (Farragut) is top notch. Farragut is home to rich Knoxvillians who got rich enough to technically split with the city and form their own city (their schools are on par with a lot of private prep schools). But I hadn't realized the IceArium had curling too! Now that has me interested in checking it out (for some reason I'm absolutely obsessed with curling - no clue why). I didn't realize it was that much better than the old ice rink that is in the Bearden area (just West of Campus but not nearly as far as Farragut) which was basically just a roller skating rink but with ice.

I bet there are others as well.

Rupp already has ice from the AHL team that used to play there. I figured SC did for similar reason. The way Bama folks talk that is in their realm.

Where does Mizzou play? Hard to believe they did not put ice in in that new arena. Nashville has the Predators but not sure if the Dores would go full out for teams.

Mizzou plays in Jeff City.

It's not that hard to believe because there is a 0% chance they start a hockey program.
