Really man.. not sure why everything has to be so confrontational with you.

I'm the opposite of the kind guy who overuses hockey lingo, friends of mine would've just laughed at what you said because I really dislike overused lingo more than anything and I make it known.

Regarding Cheese, yeah, not only does he have no idea what he's talking about the comparison he's using between the BIG and ACC is just tremendously off base.

Then, like, stop using it.

Also, FIFY.

You may know the sport but I know big picture thinking and greed. I will say it again, if ESPN can make money off it, it will happen. B1G is using it to fill programming on the BTN, and if advertisers pay, it will grow. What does ESPN answer with? The only 2 they control are the ACC and the SEC. Which of the two will be easier to build out hockey from. I an going to guess the ACC.

Look at the Big 5
BTN = FOX
SEC TV = ESPN
ACC TV = ESPN
B12 = FOX
PAC = both

I used one word, stop being such a bitch.

And that one word was used to sum up and highlight the personality differences between Giroux and Crosby.

What do you not understand about these facts.

Every team but one in the new BIG hockey conference has had D1 hockey for decades, and most of those teams played in the same league. The ACC would require almost all new programs, and removing the flagship team in college hockey's flagship conference.

BIG is comprised of hockey states, ACC is not.

D1 hockey is totally different than other sports, it isn't going to align with the major conferences because the majority of D1 hockey teams aren't football and basketball schools.

B1G hockey has only 6 teams
3 were in 1 conference
2 were in another conference
1 was a D III level team until last year

These are the facts!

6 does not equal 14 as your infer!

incorrect, see above

quote:

Incorrect, 4 is all you need by ACC bylaw, and the B1G only has 6! Right now they have 4 and can double that with existing club teams.

Syracuse = NY (a hockey state)
Pittsburgh = PA (a hockey state)
Notre Dame = IN, IL, and NY (hockey states)
Boston College = MA (hockey state)

You act like the B1G has 14 NCAA hockey teams when this is just not true. The SEC has 4 NCAA equestrian teams (hitting the bylaw of 4 when TAMU joined the SEC) and it is now an official SEC sport. Just 4 teams! ACC already has that, and ESPN already owns Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Boston College.

Hockey East = NBC
ACC = ESPN
B1G = FOX

How many brand names play in Hockey East that are not in the ACC vs how many brand names in the ACC?

Which is what I said, all the teams in new BIG have had D1 for decades, and most of them played in the same league.

And Penn St was a club team, not a DIII team.

What the hell are you talking about? What have I ever said about 14 teams, you frickin' weirdo.

Again, what the hell are you talking about.

Syracuse and Pitt don't have programs, it would require starting new programs.

Looks like they do to me

As for attendance :

1 B1G Minnesota 11,553
2 North Dakota 11,338
3 B1G Wisconsin 10,478
4 Colorado College 6,420
5 Nebraska-Omaha 6,331
6 Minnesota-Duluth 6,183
7 ACC Boston College 6,116
8 B1G Penn State 6,011
9 B1G Michigan 5,582
10 Michigan State 5,392
11 Denver 5,137
12 Massachusetts-Lowell 5,047
13 New Hampshire 4,992
14 ACC Notre Dame 4,816
15 B1G Ohio State 4,576
16 St. Cloud State 4,501
17 Boston University 4,112
18 Maine 4,092
19 Cornell 4,088
20 Massachusetts 3,891

Looking at attendance baseball and women's basketball draw better crowds. The issue is cost of production vs TV fill time in the time between football seasons. If the BTN is showing 6 hockey teams they are betting they will make more than it costs to produce, hence they make money. If the BTN uses the B1G then sooner or later ESPN will use the ACC to match product air time. BTN hockey = Coke, so ACC hockey = Pepsi. Coke has Dasani and Pepsi has Aquafina. As 1 develops a product line, so does the other to not lose shelf space.

You may know the game, but you don't know jack sh*t about markets and marketing.

I believe that if UA had a NCAA hockey team, they would match our baseball attendance from the last few years.

I think what he's saying is that Hockey East = Dr Pepper. They're not going to be destroyed no matter how dominant the others are. ACC Hockey doesn't = Pepsi, because it isn't Pepsi.

Trying to create Pepsi out of Dr. Pepper doesn't work, to use the stupid fricking analogy that's been set forth.

Hockey is by far my favorite sport to watch on TV. Die-hard Ducks fan. Have been since the Paul Kariya days.

I love hockey, but I am in the tiniest of minorities in that opinion. I don't watch the NHL very often though because I have no stake in it (i.e. no one to root for) My oldest brother played in a youth ice hockey league when he was a teenager. My brothers and I played NHL 96 on our SEGA Genesis and played roller-hockey in the driveway. I've never seen an NHL game in person, but I hope to go someday. I loved going to Baton Rouge Kingfish games as a kid, and if I ever end up living in Lafayette, I'd probably get season tickets to the Louisiana Icegators.

Those are club teams, it's not NCAA. It would require starting a program for them to compete at the NCAA level.

Just as Penn St is considered just a 2nd year program despite having club hockey for years.

I don't even know what to say in response to you sharing attendance, this is just about the dumbest dialogue I've ever been involved with.

Made the mistake of just jumping in on the last page. It is impossible to figure out what is even being discussed by reading just the last page.

My guess: Mizzou fan says "x". Cheese Grits refutes "x" and says it's "y".

How close am I?

Yeah, the Blues.

But they don't mean the same to me anymore as the Cards or Mizzou football.

I'd say I'm more interested in certain players but I'll keep on eye on how the Blues are doin.

I honestly probably have a complex built up toward hockey, I've gotten kinda jaded and bitter and a whole bunch of other things that make it hard to be the same kinda fan I was when I was a kid.

Put it to you this way UT's Ice Vols are actually the oldest and most established hockey program in the entire Southeast. I only learned they existed last year. We were ranked in the top 10 nationally in in the 200os and have been to the ACHA National Tournament 4 times. Pretty good for a southern Hockey club that even alums, a double alum even, had never heard of and is so underfunded even for a club sport they have had a tough time finding a club coach, musgt supply their own equipment (ALL of it) and financing the venture.

Of course, now that I know about them I'm interested in taking in some games. I honestly think it's a damn shame that the South's oldest hockey team is -- they've been around since the 60s -- isn't a varsity sport the uni is supporting.

We've had a local minor league team for many years now, decades even so the market is there and growing.

I would love to see the Ice Vols become varsity and for UT to add a women's team along with them.

Figured.

Back to a previous discussion though. There is just something about Giroux I can't stand. It is the same thing with Pronger. Read, Hartnell, and Cooter I respect, but there's just something about Giroux I can't stand.

I realize most non Pens fans hate Sid, but he takes some dirty hits from Giroux without getting baited. Wish Malkin would do the same.
