But I'll say it again. King killer Chronicles by Patrick Routhfuss is outstanding. I'm more interested in how it ends than a SOIAF at this point.

While I'm pretty sure everyone else's suggestions in this thread are pretty terrible. The Outliers is a decent non-fiction book.

I'm hoping the third comes out this year. He's hinted at it but i've never seen a nailed down date.
The first book's first 100 pages were brutal but ciodn't put it down after he gets to university.

Read the Wolf of Wall street a year or so ago. As you probably already know it's a movie now but the book was pretty damn entertaining. I hear the movie is too long and not very good?

Same here. I hated the Judge, but he's definitely a memorable, unique character.
Blood Meridian is crazy violent. I agree with the poster who said the paragraphs are too long. Personally, some of the similes and metaphors tend to ramble and seem strained. It's not a bad book, though.

Late to this thread but English was one of my majors, I read some pretty good books in undergrad I had never heard of growing up.
Nobody really suggested any short story collections, but I get a kick out of them because it's easier to read them when youre busy.
Larry Brown "big bad love"
Lewis Nordan "music of the swamp"
Denis Johnson "Jesus' Son"
Ole miss prof Tom Franklin's book "crooked letter, crooked letter" is a good mystery novel you might like.
Another good cormac McCarthy is "the crossing"

Read that a few years ago, but still remember a lot of it. Saw the movie last night and was not disappointed.
Book is 100x better of course. He goes into way more detail about his early life including his high school years, his seal training, and his relationships with the other seals. If you really enjoyed the movie do yourself a favor and read the book. You won't be able to put it down.

5 month long awaited bump.
Since this was last posted in, I've torn through all of Vince Flynn and started on Michael Connelly.
Crime and Law books are normally not my thing, but I have enjoyed the Bosch and Haller series a good bit.
I finally cracked the Dark Tower series after a long break from any fantasy novels and am not sure what i think yet. I haven't read any stephen king books in quite a while and maybe reading to much spy/crime/non-fiction the last few months have made me lazy in regards to his more descriptive writing style. going to try to push through the first two and if it's not sticking i'd like to get to O'Reilly's Killing series.
