LINK. The 3 minute video is excellent.

Scientists were able to erase certain kinds of memories while retaining others in snail neurons. While much more research is required before this is attempted in humans, the researchers are hopeful that this study could one day lead to new therapies for post-traumatic stress disorder.

If you were given a forgetting pill, would you take it?

I would hope that access to medical forgetting would be limited to trauma. Some say we are what we remember. If we can erase every bad relationship, aren't we doomed to repeat them?

The single greatest human trait is our ability to persevere and overcome adversity. To turn a terrible circumstance into a great victory.

How do we do these great things when we don't remember the impetus?

If this comes to fruition, it will destroy what is best of us.

There is about 50 years worth of Vandy football it could come in handy for.

Imagine how different a person might be without the memory of being raped as a child, though. Or seeing a parent or loved one killed. Memories of war incapacitate many soldiers after they've served. I think medical forgetting would help them, don't you?

When I was 8 I watched my 13 year old brother die in an accident. If you were to erase that event from my memory it wouldn't bring my brother back, so no I wouldn't take it. I would still have to grieve his death. If you were to erase any and all memories I have of my brother so I wouldn't know he existed, I would pass on that too. I'd rather have the pain of watching him die if it means I can have the joy of remembering him alive.

I could see how it could be of some Benefit to some people. But I'll pass.

Gotcha. Yeah, while that's an awful memory, I don't think it would be appropriate in that situation either. In fact, it might cause more problems. So sorry for your loss.

My example was of murder. If a kid saw his dad murdering his mom or vice versa, I think that might cause PTSD. Life for some kids is brutal enough without having to recall nightmarish memories.

Yeah I could see some practical applications for certain situations for sure.

I am watching a K-Drama Series now called "Circle: Two Worlds Connected", and it is about erasing memories. Each show is split into 2 parts: 2017 first half, and then 2037 for the second half.

The 2017 part focuses on the development of the memory erasing project. The scientists were working on a way to solve PTSD in soldiers.

The 2037 part focuses on the world that was created.

I'm not clicking on your memory erasing link. Nice try.

Or did I already click on it and forget?
