Seriously the school in Arizona is a terrible example. I'm black and would be offended if a white person called me a porch monkey. If someone told me there's a whole community of black people in Minnesota that don't mind being called that or even that the majority of blacks don't mind it, my response would be cool, but you better not call me that. And the polite thing to do would be to respect that.

There are actually two. They're both on reservations.

And if you told me that for generations you'd been rooting for a team called the porch monkeys and the suggestion that the name should be changed offends you, I'd laugh and think you were joking. If this affected black people, people would care and change would occurr. But just as America has for centuries, we're continuing to shite on Native Americans and then claim it's okay because we let them operate gambling facilities on a fraction of the land that used to be theirs.

Except that's not what this is. Has anyone actually heard a Native American be called a "redskin" with the intent to demean them? At the worst, it's an outdated slur that has taken on new meaning as the name of a football team.

I've seen everything from Roger's 2300 to a 990. Does anyone actually know what he got?

The name of an NFL team doesn't affect my life. The owner sets up a charitable foundation to actuallt positively affect Native American's lives and no one is impressed. But changing the name of the franchise, a largely symbolic move, would impress them?

The PC police get far too excited over superficial changes and don't really give a crap about actual issues.

I just don't understand:

We both agree it's racially charged.
We both agree that some of that ethnic group find it offensive.

And yet you're okay with it.

And no, in principle it's exactly like the porch monkey example. Both are words that no one really uses anymore that used to be racial epithets. You're just saying calm down, we don't mean it like that anymore and disregarding those who are actually still bothered by it. But this point we're just talking right past each other so I'm gonna agree to disagree.

The huge difference is likely due to the different grading systems implemented a few years back as some schools would look at 1600 base and only consider the normal two sections while others would look at 2400 based on the new system.

Doesn't really matter, communications lol...
