Birmingham doesn't get enough pub. The restaurants are amazing for a city of its size. The Zoo is really breaking new ground with Trails (something you would have seen San Diego or Dallas do in the past). The new Sports pub in Five Points called the Red Zone has the best food I've ever eaten at a sports bar, its brand new and really embraces the Foodie movement. Birmingham as a whole is full tilt in the foodie movement.

Sounds a lot like Gainesville actually.

Atlanta is the capital of the South. It really isn't debatable.

This. Atl is the best overall.

The other large cities are Houston and NOLA. I lived in Houston a few years and have been to NOLA a few dozen times.

NOLA is 3. It is terrible for employment and overall less safe and dirtier than Houston or Atl. But NOLA is #1 for me for nightlife. Love a weekend in the quarter.

Houston is #1 for employment but behind Atl in both nightlife and women.

Atl is the best overall. #1 women. #2 nightlife. #2 employment.

Then we should add Miami to the list.

Well, shite. Then Miami wins. FTR I have lived in Bham, Mobile, Atl, Houston, and Miami (all for more than 1 year).

Miami is far and away tops in women and nightlife. No other cities in the south are even in the ballpark and for women, Miami is probably #1 in the country, possibly the world. Nightlife is in the top few in the country/world as well. Employment is very average. Way behind Houston and Atl.

But Miami is so far ahead in women and nightlife, it wins. And that is not even factoring in water and beaches everywhere and the year round warm/hot weather.

Well if you compare them to the rednecks and country bumpkins found around the rest of they south, is it really that bad? It's basically which stereotype do you want to be surrounded by. I'll give the slight edge to Miami for the year round summer and the women.

Cities like Atlanta, Houston, Dallas or NOLA, Charleston and Savannah are not full of "country bumpkins" and "rednecks" but okay

This is actually pretty false. It is clearly not Houston for employment, but there are plenty of jobs in the New Orleans area.

Actually, both Houston and Atlanta have a higher violent crime rate than NOLA.

I'll take the burglary and robbery of Atlanta over the murder and rape of NOLA all day, every day.

I feel like Lexington is very underrated nationally. I for one was blown away by the size of it, and by how nice it was.

Shhh, our little secret. Okay?

Seriously, downtown Lexington is super cool.

Lexington is definitely one of the nicest cities in the SEC. I would put it behind only Athens and Nashville.

Doesn't have Chic-fil-A, not eligible as a city.

I don't think those qualify as cities.
