According to the news tonight, Spokane has a problem with the front door lock on their insane asylum. Coocoo for Coco Puffs are running rampant. I'd go armed.

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize that the eastern half of Washington goes abruptly into badlands and is just like Idaho and Montana.

Spokane isn't high desert or badlands. Just East of the Cascades and Southeastern Wa is pretty arid, Spokane isn't anything like that.

I'd probably still feel safer there than most cities in the Southeast.

I'd probably pick Raleigh. NC reciprocates AK's CCP, WA doesn't.

And I could side trip down to Bama to visit some kin.

What people refer to as the "eastern half" of WA is over half the state and has quite a bit of variety.

"High desert" "badlands" lol. Some folks posting on here clearly haven't ever been out there.

Raleigh is fine, but it's just like a dozen other "new south" cities.

Perfect description.

It's not a bad town, just nothing all that unique about it. But if you're in a conference all day, and just have the nights to enjoy the city you probably wouldn't really notice.

Just out of curiousity, what industry is your conference for?

Raleigh is nothing special, but Spokane is surprisingly bad for being in the pacific NW. If he's never been to either, pick Raleigh. If he's been to Raleigh a bunch of times, then Spokane.

I used to go to Spokane quite a bit. Do yourself a favor...go there and drive East to Cour d'Alene, Idaho. You can also take in an Eastern Washington game on the Red Turf.

I loved driving through the pan handle of Idaho. It is a pretty awesome place to see.

Surprisingly, I've been to Spokane but not to Raleigh. Spokane is not bad. I was only there a few hours while on a road trip out west. About 20 miles west of Spokane is nothing but flat, treeless, vastness. Probably the ugliest place I've seen in the western U.S. besides eastern Colorado or eastern Wyoming. It was pretty odd considering how many trees, etc. there where in Spokane. The scenery is pretty good there and like others have said try to get to Coeur d' alene if you can. In general, I prefer the west so I would take Spokane any day over Raleigh.

Raleigh is a great place to live, not necessarily visit.

It's about a 45 minute drive, and if you are in a conference all day, you are not getting there until 6 or later. You miss most of the nature stuff, so CDA isn't that much of a selling point. Evening dinner, and maybe some live music and a decent downtown are what you figure to do when you are doing conferences. Spokane pales in comparison to Raleigh in that context.

CDA for a vacation? Abso-fricking-lutely.

Never been to either. Some people are boycotting NC because of the bathroom law.
