Pop music now.
Pop music 50 years ago.
Sure, I'm off by a couple of years it's more like 48 years, but you get the point.
I'd rather my teenage kids listen to pop from 50 years ago, just sayin.

However, my example is extreme to be sure. I'm just bummed that more artists don't get out in front of a band these days.
There's too much formulaic nonsense. It's not cool. When I was a kid in the 80's I could choose from the formulaic stuff and the rock n roll Van Halen type shot.
I like all of it.
If I break out my guitar with my 6 year old niece she expects me to sing a Taylor Swift song, forget about the guitar I'm playing.
Thank god my 3 year old nephew gets pissed if I'm not banging out some rock n roll after awhile.
He could careless about the singing, just play the guitar Uncle Echo.
Maybe it's a guy thing.
However, my example is extreme to be sure. I'm just bummed that more artists don't get out in front of a band these days.

Ha! Right. Interestingly enough they kinda sorta tried to consider him pop: His first U.S. tour was opening for The Monkees.
He didn't finish the tour. All those 13 year-olds and their mothers were not inspired.

Sucks that the bad stuff today is thrown at people a million ways, but the good stuff usually has to be found.
Old stuff is where it's at, but I wouldn't wanna shut off the new stuff that's inspired by old stuff. Getting your kids on good older music is has to be one of the best gifts you can give them.
Listening to Houndmouth's new album last few days, saw show a few weeks ago near their hometown, crowd was extra good w longtime fans. Think they're set to get popular this year, at least among the alternative crowd. Otis, For No One, Black Gold, Honey Slider probably favorites on there.
You'll probably hate it. Things I like and don't like about this music.

I'll be the first admit, I'm stuck in a box of music.
However, I'm only stuck there because I find genius in it on an almost daily basis.
I'd be worried if I was still listening to Blink 182 and Korn all day long.
I'm not worried that I'm listening to music that is old and dead.
I've been through all of it, Hip Hop, Boy Bands, whatever the frick you call bands like Creed and Nickleback.
It all sucks. A song like 32-20 Blues by Robert Johnson holds more musical genius to me than pretty much any song from the last 20 years.
Maybe Im just weird though.

Man, when I was a kid in the 60's my Dad loved to listen to the Soul Stations on Sunday morning ( his only day off work) and it was great music and fine for us kids to hear, and we laughed at him, while he danced around the house in his socks.

I think people overanalyze their own and others' music tastes, tbh.
Just listen to a little of this, that, and the other thing, and enjoy whatever gets your toe tapping

Tbird, I think you are right in most cases, but in extreme cases, I think a link can be found between certain types of behavior and certain types of music.
I remember that My Dad loved old country. Hank sr., Soul,and Gospel,Bluegrass, Beatles..but he thought Jim Croce was hippy music. ...Go figure..

I think we have to be careful with correlation/causation when it comes to even that, though.
Similar to how some would blame violent video games for violent behavior irl.

Yeah, we do, because the outcome would be censorship, and no real reasonable U.S. Citizen would be in favor of that, unless they are stupid.
At the same time, I can use this in my everyday life and think for myself, about how I handle certain folks,frick what the government has to do.

So weird.... I guess times simply marches on. The term "50 years ago" still makes me think of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis, not Hendrix.

After spending five years in Nola, I didn't realize how much of a bubble I'd gotten into, until I moved to Denver and realized I didn't know a damn thing about any modern music. Now that I'm in Lafayette, I'll probably end up in a bubble again.

I know Im an old fart, but I like music covering a large range of time periods. However, when I have my grandchildren (4&7) in the car, I tend to put on 60's music on SiriusXM.
1. The music tends to have a melody and words that are calming.
2. Guaranteed no hard language.
3. You can generally sing to it and you wouldnt care if your kid repeated the words (most of the time.)
Much of music from 90's or later, and almost all hip hop /rap music fails that test.

I think Nickelback and Creed are the bridge between 90's grunge and nu-metal. I guess bro-rock would be the proper nomenclature. I thought it would make me happy to see rock bands like that no longer be popular, unfortunately, now there are no rock bands that really get airtime (heck, BR doesn't even catch a rock station anymore). It makes me sad for the genre. Even the "popular" rock bands literally have zero attractive women fans. All the hot chicks are at bro-country shows, so that's where the dudes go to get laid. It is all very very sad.
