Do you have any gyms/fitness classes near you that also offers childcare? I know YMCAs vary wildly from town to town, but the ones here in the suburbs are pretty nice and offer childcare for the younger kiddos and "teenage appropriate" fitness areas for the 12 and up bunch. Might be a nice reprieve for you to workout and to give the wife a little bit of me time.

We do have a nice gym less than a mile from the house we've had a membership with off and on. It has a daycare, but it tailors more towards really young kids. My 9 year would hate, and my older one would kill me if I sent him to it.

I've taken my daughter before when I've gone to swim laps. They have an area of the pool for open swim and a lifeguard. She got bored though as she was the only kid in the pool.

Anyway, I think we've figured it out. Mentioned getting a bike last night and the kids were stoked and wife said she'd been thinking of doing the same. So we're going to start riding bikes around the neighborhood. I couldn't be any more suburban white.

Find workouts that can be done in 30-45 minutes.

I get up at 5:00am and workout. My wife goes at 6:00. I leave the house by 6:45 for work. Yes, she has to get the kids ready alone, but that's recent since I took a new job with a commute but more pay. Before, I would work out immediately after work but that was sporadic.

In my experience, you have to make it happen in the morning, or you'll be sporadic at best. Too much shite comes up in the afternoon/evening when you have a family and a job.

I wake up every morning at 4:15 AM and am at work by usually no later than 6:25 AM. I'm usually home from work by 5:30 and will work out on M,W,F from about 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM. This works for me primarily because I have an extensive gym at my home. It would have been cheaper to just get a membership, but going to the gym would only prolong my day. I've got everything I need at home. By 7:15 PM, I'm eating dinner with the wife and kids and have at least an hour and a half with my girls before they go to bed.

It works for me. I would probably not work out if I had to go to the gym for my workouts. I work about 45 miles from home. The commute plus the workout is difficult enough as it is to add another leg.
