my issue with prepping 7 days out is the food ends up not tasting as well by day 7 to me.

I have been experimenting with freezing/defrosting cooked foods with great success.

Example 1: Lasagna casserole

Normally after about three days a casserole isn't as good. So what I do is put three days worth in a tupperware and keep it in the fridge. The rest I put in another tupperware that goes in a freezer bag that I freeze as soon as the food cools. After two days go by I decide if I want to eat more that week, and if so I pull out what I froze to defrost by the fourth day via sitting in the refrigerator.

Example 2: pot roast (or taco meat or pork roast or most meats)

As soon as it cools from cooking (and I eat what I want) I put the meat in a gallon ziploc bag spread out flat (I cut it all up) so that way it doesn't freeze as one huge lump. Then I am hungry I pull out just the amount of meat I want, defrost it by microwaving it at 50%, and then add it to other food that goes bad slowly so I can easily keep it around (cooked rice, cheese, avocado, etc.).

It takes a little planning, but this technique of using freshly frozen food can eliminate waste and make it so what you are eating always tastes somewhat fresh.

Hard to do with 2 kids in baseball, dance, piano, homework, eating supper together, etc. That's the main issue I run into. I run out of time with everything else going on.

Very, very similar boat. The best thing I've been able to do is squeeze in late runs after the kids go to bed around 8:30. Gives me time to get home and shower before bed.

I do mix fish or shrimp in the meal rotation as well. I haven't since moving to the metro Atlanta area, I've stuck mostly with chicken, beef and pork.

My issue is i don't really like the cheaper fish unless i bake and broil the hell out of them. I do love a nice slab of salmon but its been a while since i bought one.

Theoretically it should get better this school year as my wife will start working from home. She'll be there when they get off the bus to get them started on homework. So it's possible I'll have a bit more time in the afternoons/evenings.

There were a lot of nights last year we were up past 10 doing homework due to practices, games, etc. running late.

Issue is I don't really like freezing and reheating my stuff It shouldn't be a huge issue though going forward once me and the gf settle in a routine because she only really works the weekends. so we have all week to meal prep. We have just been busy settling in, exploring and making emergency trips back to br

I actually ride my mountain bike, and tearing up the sidestreets keeps me in shape for the rare chance to actually go off road.

Word. And my family has some hunting land with logging roads and trails cut all through it I could ride on when it's not hunting season.

Not sure why I didn't think of a bike before. Probably cheaper than a monthly gym membership as well.

you'd probably be fine during hunting season. it's just peppering from a shotgun.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but having your own gym at home would be a good idea. It worked for me when my kids were younger. I don't usually enjoy working out but found it a lot easier when all I had to do was go downstairs. Also, it saved me a lot of time by not having to commute back and forth to a gym. I have some pretty nice equipment I bought pretty cheap. My wife loves garage sales and nearly every piece of equipment she bought at a yard sale.

Another recommendation may be hiking. Not sure you would have time with all of your kids activities but I took my kids hiking with me every Saturday morning. It's great exercise and exposes your kids to the outdoors. However, if they are both playing ball, they are already getting outside a ton.

It's deer hunting, so it'd be rifles.

The bigger concern though would be getting my scent all through there and spooking the deer. That area doesn't get hunted much, but when it does it's someone taking a young kid to bag his/her first deer.

Definitely a tough situation. Have you tried looking into bodyweight programs? You don't need equipment and I've seen great results from them. Google "Reddit Bodyweight" and it will take you to the community that has a ton of programs and whatnot.

If you haven't looked at MTB prices recently, they can be pretty scary. Don't feel like you need to spend thousands to get all the shiny. I have a chinese steel frame with decent accessories on it. Does fine for me, I'm not competing here or anything. BikesDirect sells some cheap bikes.

Yeah, I'd probably just find an old used one on Craigslist initially. Then if I get serious hit the bike shops. Even the ones on CL I looked at earlier were pretty pricey though. We'll see.

The challenge with a used one though is I'm 6'4" and need a large frame. Looks like most of them are regular sized frames.

my apologies.

sincerely, when i decided not to be a fatass anymore (not saying you are) i just decided that i was going to commit to this fully and got out of bed every day to do it. i hated it for a year, but now i feel it if i don't go for a few days. i went from 250 to 155 (eff that) and have been about 175 for 4 years now.

i'm not winning crossfit competitions, but i'm in the best shape of my life outside of track season in HS.

No worries. Just in one of those moods.

I'm not fat, though could stand to lose a few. 6'4", 215-220 pounds. Ideally I'd like to be around 200. I have a really think frame. I'm just 43 and now carry any extra weight on my waist, and just really out of shape. And that extra weight gives me back problems and I've already had back surgery once. Need to get some cardio in my regimen as heart issues run rampant in my family, and I'm already on a cholesterol restrictive diet.

And I HATE working out. It's why I quit sports in high school. Running, lifting weights, going to a gym. All that stuff I HATE with a passion. So swimming, yoga, riding a bike, and hiking are more my speed. Biking probably isn't good for my back, but if I mix in some core exercises it shouldn't be too bad.

Suck it up and go early in the mornings and deal with exhaustion?

^^^I did this for the most parts. Kids are older now and they do their own thing mostly now so it is easier to workout whenever.

You probably will have to settle for a run/walk/jog whenever you can.
