With a handgun, I like power. I don't want to defend myself and read the headlines an it say "home intruder shot 5 times, in stable condition". I want it to say "burglar shot once in chest, pronounced dead at the scene".

Exactly. Getting knocked flat on your arse or hurting your shoulder is a far better fate than being mugged, raped, or killed. Gotta get something that is going to end the encounter with one shot that hits home.

I love handguns. I'm partial to 9mm personally, for self defense and general shooting.

For carry, I just got a Kel-Tec P11. For men, we usually carry inside the belt, so we need something with a slim profile. The Ruger LC9 is great too, but the Kel-tec has a higher capacity. Some people say the 9 has no knockdown power, but really............no handgun has knockdown power. You wanna blow somebody away, get a 12 gauge.

Can't help you on wheel guns, I SUCK with them.

ETA: I actually don't carry yet, I'm going to get my permit in two weeks.

I don't know a ton about guns so I'm sure I'm saying this wrong...but I have a 38 and that's cuz I was told a 22 doesn't do shite.

I haven't even taken it out and tried it.

If my company ever lets me go home and sleep in my own bed again, I intend on visiting the range if I can find some bullets. I can let you know when.

I haven't fired a shot since I broke my wrist last summer, so don't expect much.

Cutie has it right. The Bodyguard by S&W is a great gun for the ladies. As is the Model 642 by S&W. It's a stainless gun, and has a concealed hammer inside. Which means, all you have to do is pull the trigger. The only moving part is the cylinder and trigger. It can be shot while holding it inside your purse as you walk to your vehicle, or while it's concealed. Here's a pic of the Bodyguard, and the 642 below it.

eta- fwiw, I carry the 642 as much as I do my full size. With the boot grip, pictured above, it fits in my back pocket. Very conveinant.

Are there different kinds of bodyguards? That doesn't look like mine. Mine has the crimson trace on it too.

How's the trigger pull on those? I've been told that the trigger pull on some hammer less revolvers is a bitch and a half.

There is a .38 bodyguard, and a .380 bodyguard... one is a revolver, one is a pistol.

Yeah.. they make several variations on that model. Mostly minor though.

And yeah.. there is a 380 bodyguard too. Does yours have the cylinder, or is it semiauto?

eta- this is the semiauto Bodyguard:

The semiauto has a safety you have to take off, and the top part, the slide, moves backwards when you fire it, to load another round. The advantage of the revolver, is that you can fire it from inside your purse, you don't have to remove it if there isn't time, and you can walk with your hand on it and ready to fire at all times in your purse. The semiauto, you have to take out, take the safety off, then fire. Otherwise, if it's not clear of anything, it's likely to catch the slide and you'll only get one shot.

Not bad at all. 8 pounds if I'm not mistaken. As with any firearm, practice and it's nothing. Plus, if you're ever in a situation that requires it, adrenaline will take care of any weakness.

I wanted something that would not jam, or I would not have to worry about messing with a safety incase I really needed to blast some a-hole
