John Bonham was an awesome drummer.. He had mind bending speed, but could also layer offbeat 4/4 and 6/8 whithin the same measure on different parts on the set. You're pretty far off on him.

Go listen to "in my time of dying" or "dazed and confused"

Watching Robert Plant is similar to softcore gay porn. He was recruited on his blues platform then the cocaine created all that other mouthy shite he'd try to do.. He tried to mouth instrument too much and it got bad sometimes too..

I can agree with this. But Plant drags the whole band down, imo. IMMENSELY overrated.

The Beatles. Never could understand why they were such a big deal.

Well, the very concept of being overrated is that first you must be rated high. Thus, being rated high, you are now a candidate to be overrated. So just saying that they can't be overrated because they are rated so high is kind of not the point here.

True, I guess I've just never heard someone say Bonham was overrated. Plant I can kind of see, but Bonham? Maybe I'm just biased though as I think he and Ginger Baker(Cream) were the best drummers of that era.

I can live with that.

John Paul Jones was the fricking man. Could play pretty much any instrument

If you seriously think Robert Plant is overrated then you just don't know much about music

Cobain is a solid choice, few artists made a better career move by dying. Nirvana was a good band and Nevermind was a great album but at the time Pearl Jam seemed to be a much bigger deal. Then Kobain kills himself and suddenly he was the spokesperson of a generation and the image of the Seattle/Grunge movement when you could easily say it was several others.

Have to disagree about anything Zeppelin related being overrated. Robert Plant is still an incredible talent and the diversity of music he has made only proves that out. John Bonham is romanticized but he was an exceptional drummer. They also had a unique and diverse sound and could do just about anything well. I'd put them firmly in the conversation as the best band of the 70's/post Beatle era.

I think Aerosmith is far more overrated than Zeppelin. Honestly I think all the music they have put out since they got off drugs is pretty much crap and geared for MTV.

I can see the argument for Morrison being overrated but he was a unique talent. At least he truly was a poet and a pretty smart guy before he lost his mind to drugs. He wrote some pretty powerful lyrics. Pretty worthless as a human being but that isn't the question.

That is fine, I don't really like The Boss, but I can't really say he is overrated because he is immensely talented.

Somewhat true, but In Utero debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts when it was released so Nirvana was very popular at the time.

Nirvana was always kind of credited with bringing the grunge scene to the masses with their video for Smells Like Teen Spirit, so I disagree that his death put him as the spokesperson. There was always kind of a rivalry between Nirvana and Pearl Jam fans on which one was more grunge though.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers would be thought of in a totally different way if Kiedis had died after Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

I still like the Peppers but there's no denying the dip in quality and creativity after BSSM. There's a reason they performed Give It Away at the Superbowl and not something from their new stuff.
