I am glad he is home but I have missed reactions about this guy. I was in country when he went missing from supposedly leaving his COP. Everything else halted and we had to go out and look for him.

Yep, that's the basics of the story I've heard from people who were in theater at the time. He was stashing food and just walked off one day. Good he's home but I'd be interested in reading the 15-6.

Either this, or we turned one or more of the guys released and will be getting some useful intel soon.

I think everyone is glad he's on his way home. I just think the price paid for it is too high. The Taliban demanded those 5 and they were given those 5. There's nothing this admin has done that gives me confidence they won't harm Americans in the future. And I can't see how it doesn't embolden others to try the same tactic in the future now.

Please accept my apologies, cum bucket. I was in a hurry to get out of the office after 12 hours. I'll make sure I proof read from now on.

I was actually thinking of how easy it'd be to plant a subdermal chip or even use one of them as an informant.

People really do think that America is completely oblivious to the ways of war. It's kind of sad.

But one of the few things I'll give Obama is that he does do away with this trash on the reg via drone attacks.

I've checked multiple sources and it doesn't say he deserted it. It says he was seen with three Afghanis and disappeared...with them. And he said he was left behind on a march. Either way, abandonment didn't happen. Unless it was by his unit.

You didn't look very well.
I'm glad he's home but the whole situation is extremely sketchy.

quote:

I’ve been reporting for over a week (along with the AP and WaPo) that Bowe Bergdahl, the US soldier who’s gone missing in eastern Afghanistan, walked off the base on his own accord.

Now, somebody close to the people searching for Bergdahl has repeated this assertion saying that the soldier left “a note behind that said he was going to the mountains to find himself. He took a journal and 4 or 5 knives with him.” My source tells me that Bergdahl arrived at a village and asked if anybody spoke English. That’s when he was captured.

My source tells me that there is no doubt Bergdahl deserted, which in a time of war is punishable by a court martial at the least, or even execution.

quote:

I’m not the only one saying this. Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (Ret.) told Fox News that Bergdahl is “an apparent deserter,” and intimates that he wouldn’t feel badly if the Taliban killed Bergdahl. At the end of the segment he does say that we should wait until all the facts come in to pass judgement, but even Michelle Malkin smells something fishy.

quote:

A new article in Rolling Stone says categorically that Mr. Bergdahl, then a 23-year-old private, left his weapon and other gear behind and walked away from his combat outpost after being deployed for only a few months. An excerpt from the article, written by Michael Hastings:

In the early-morning hours of June 30th, according to soldiers in the unit, Bowe approached his team leader not long after he got off guard duty and asked his superior a simple question: If I were to leave the base, would it cause problems if I took my sensitive equipment?

Yes, his team leader responded — if you took your rifle and night-vision goggles, that would cause problems.

Bowe returned to his barracks, a roughly built bunker of plywood and sandbags. He gathered up water, a knife, his digital camera and his diary. Then he slipped off the outpost.

I'd rather not rely on trying to keep track of them and droning them, when they were already out of commission.

I honestly and sincerely don't think several of you do. I don't say that to disparage or in a hateful way. Do you not see the ramifications that this swap is likely to lead to?

I think at the very least these guys aren't just going to "walk free". We've had them in custody and I can't imagine our government just letting them go scot free even in an exchange.

Now whether they're all chip implanted or snuffed out by drones later is all for your debate.

This was my immediate thought or hope, I should say, when I first saw the news.
