OL. That's great in theory but shite in reality. Once the dude has the metal pipe in hand, force has been fully escalated - there is no process.

I have been in multiple complex incidents that required EOF. Thought does not equal paralysis. Lack of training equals over/under reaction.

I take it you're a LEO?

I just hate that a life was lost, but it looks like the officer showed restraint and only fired when the perp was upon him attacking.

I'm the last person to defend cops. But if you assault a cop in any way, it's going to be a justifiable shoot.

Does this apply to anyone or just cops?

I agree. I support the police but I also believe in constant training.

Be careful, they consider assault if your biological reflex moves your arms after they punch you in the face!

If a dude hits you with a flagpole, you've got a pretty good chance of getting off on a self-defense claim. But in the real world, it helps a lot when you're a cop.

I question many shoots. This shoot was completely justified. Attack a cop like that and there's little, actually no doubt.

Trust me. 808 gets that. Having said that, picking up a flag pole and swinging it at a cop is hardly a biological reflex.

Look at any police departments use of force model. Heavy handed weapons(batons, Metal Poles) are one below deadly force. Always go one above what the assailant is at. Justifiable shoot no doubt. If he hits him and knocks him out, he has a free Glock to play with.
