People are allowed to be racist. Sterling is allowed to be racist, Jay Z is allowed to be racist, The Nation of Islam dude is allowed to be racist.

You can't be unfair in opportunities, employment, etc, etc, etc.

If Donald Sterling was a frick in a trailer, nobody would care. The fact of the matter is that he's an NBA owner, so it's news. He didn't discriminate in employment, opportunities, or anything else.

If someone doesn't want to play for a racist, that's on them. He's fulfilling his obligations as far as the law is concerned as a racist. Anything else is a personal choice.

You are. Easy answer.

I'm not the one deflecting here.

I'm also not condoning other instances of racism.

The other folks that you mentioned haven't stated that they don't want folks attending their games based on their skin color. That is the conduct that is detrimental to the leage that Adam Silver's reprimand was addressing.

He was in a position of power. Of course it was news.

Doesn't mean that his comments weren't detrimental to the league or that he couldn't be racist. That is irrelevant.

That isn't the issue here at all. You're missing the point.

But that's ok. I'm done arguing this. Gotta go get some work done. Have a good one

Racism is racism and YOU are in denial. Spike Lee ,Will Smith, Jay-Z, there are more. And made by prominent members of the league.

Should we ban Isiah Thomas for his remarks about Larry Bird?

The civil trial could go very badly for the NBA.

There's no argument.

If I'm giving out my product for free and I think the best way to market it is by having hot blondes carry it and I decide to only give it out to hot blondes, that's my call as the business owner.

Same situation as far as the tickets go. Instagram, everything else, you buy in to that when you get free money from Sterling.

It is not illegal to be a racist.

Why can't everyone see that the legality of the issue is irrelevant?

If I work for McDonald's, I can legally go on television and say "the Big Mac is terrible, y'all should be going to Burger King and buying whoppers instead." That is something that's well within my right to do, but that doesn't mean that McDonald's couldn't fire me for it.

Donald Sterling has the right to be racist. He doesn't have the right to own an NBA franchise.

It's legally murky surrounding the forced selling.

A) He has to get fair market value or the NBA pays him a monster penalty.

B) The owners agreement is specific about the cause for a forced sell. It doesn't appear this is covered by the agreement.

I will say this though, it's amazing how many white guys come running in and white knighting for any other white guy caught being racist. It's like the subject hits really close to home or something.

If Sterling wanted his name in the media more (which I'm sure he doesn't) he could have a legitimate court case on his hands.

The legality is why I don't think they'll force him to sell. The NBA doesn't want that case on their hands. Sterling is the type of a-hole who will fight it uuntil the bitter end.

Sterling is an a-hole, but he should fight it to the bitter end. I don't agree with what he said or anything, but I also don't like what the NBA did in this instance.

He's got little room to fight the suspension and fine. A forced sell however...

I would fight the losing battle just to see if I might be able to bring some others down with me and drag the NBA through the mud a little bit.

It'll just give the NBA more PR cover.

He's signed an agreement that grants the commissioner that power. All a fight will do is be expensive, bring no one down, and make the NBA look better assuming he doesn't have a mountain of dirt on them.
