ok well i meant with negative press. i dont remember a single college athlete who got as much shite as manziel has gotten the past month or so from the national media. some of it was definitely his fault, some of it was absolute shite
I am not a huge fan of Clay Travis, but he had a really interesting take on the faux JFF outrage: YOUR OPINION ON JOHNNY MANZIEL TELLS US MORE ABOUT YOU THAN HIM
quote:
I mean, Tim freaking Tebow got a taunting penalty in the BCS title game and I never heard anyone utter a word about that. All Tebow's penalty illustrated was the joyful way he played football. Tajh Boyd scored a rushing touchdown in ESPN/ABC's primetime game and made the same money hand gesture that Manziel did and I didn't see it replayed anywhere. Nor did I hear anyone suggest that Boyd was a narcissist hell-bent on destroying his team's title chances.
As I thought about this Saturday night, it suddenly came to me -- what you think about Johnny Manziel tells us more about you than it does about him.
I don't really agree with a lot of it, but it is an interesting look into the whole thing. I don't like him because he beat Alabama last year and seems like a dbag, but I could care less about his on the field and off the field antics. He is living the life many of us dreamed of having growing up playing football. I'm not gonna hate the kid because he is enjoying it.
I think the biggest issue for him though is that if he fails people will probably unrightfully blame it on all of his antics.

God, Moss would have been raked over the coals.

Nah, bro. We don't know how hard his life is because we haven't had to walk a day in his shoes.

im not saying it hasnt. im just saying that it definitely has gone too far. when you send someone to stay on our campus for months just to do a hit piece on our honor code, they have gone too far
Pete Thamel's "rumors" where he paid "sources" to talk about Eric Bledsoe's algebra grades in HS prompted a widespread investigation of his former school system. All because Eric Bledsoe did better in a higher level math class then a lower one a year before.
Only did you find out sandwiched in a small paragraph that Eric Bledsoe was living out of a car when he took the lower level course. And that he was actually living in a stable home when he took the higher level course. But was he played the victim? Hell no. He was one of Cal's "cheaters". And somehow Pete Thamel is still employed as a major writer for a major outlet.
I agree that it's gotten ridiculous. The NCAA won't nail UNC for outright academic fraud but they damn sure made Calipari give that 500 win celebration basketball back that Kentucky gave him because it included his 42 vacated wins. There were about a hundred articles written about that but not a peep from the right people about UNC (in multiple sports).
But what it boils down to is people are going to write what they write to get hits and publicity. They don't give a shite about the kids they right about or the schools it effects. This isn't exclusive to JFF. And it went way too far long before him. Some (not all, but certainly some) think it started and ended with him.

And this is why I read none of this shite and find it borderline retarded for the entire SECr to be up in arms over all this shite. It is shady journalism trying to get hits on highly sensationalized story about events that pretty much everyone knows go on at big time programs.
Stop giving them attention.

I might just become a Princeton fan full-time. I'm getting a little tired of this shite

once again, i agree with everything you said. it isnt exclusive to a&m or manziel. my point is though, i cant remember such an outright and prolonged smear campaign against one collegiate athlete. its not only WHAT they are saying. but how constant they are. this is easily tim tebow level but just instead of it being positive, its negative. they werent sending people to a&m for investigation into the manziel scenario, it was for a 100% hit piece on the school. what im saying is that whats going on isnt exclusive to manziel, just that i have never seen it anywhere near the level that it has been towards manziel
Posted on 9/11/13 at 9:28 pm to WestCoastAg
and i fully believe that the next player will get it worse than manziel because thats just how it is now

JFF doesn't touch the shite Cam went through.

Then you must've missed Cam Newton. Because not only was it prolonged, but magnified by how good he was.

and TIL we have no Princeton option for a favorite team. FML
(We have nearly every other Ivy League school. What the actual frick)

JFF is an amazing athlete, there's no denying that. But Aggies have to accept that he's a POS like we have with HENDO
