Shocking

TBH, I like Chattanooga and obviously Nashville more than any city in Alabama. I really like the area between Nashville and my hometown on 65 - pretty rolling hills until you get to Franklin.

I'm not sure I'd want to live anywhere between Mobile and Montgomery (maybe Lee County if I felt like being a masochist). The state changes dramatically once you get south of the hills/mountains....the northern half of the state is so much further ahead that it's not even funny.

This. The Mobile/Gulf Coast area of Bama is nice. Birmingham north is nice. Everything in between is a third world inbred shithole.

Full Disclosure: Born and raised in Huntsville.

Us Valley folk know what's up.

I do hate your city for constantly wrangling and incorporating parts of Limestone County, though.

I actually lived in MS for a couple of years as a teenager. If you enjoy the outdoors, it's actually not half bad. I do prefer north AL though.

Gumpville, but hearing RTR or WE everyday would force me into drinking...

Honestly, it's one of the things I'm most thankful about living out of state. I couldn't take it all day everyday all year long. It's easy to turn Bama/Auburn off and tune it out in a place like Atlanta, it's nearly impossible in Birmingham.

You don't have to. It's just as fast to just take I-65 to Birmingham, then I-20/59 to Tuscaloosa.

Much better way to go IMO

I wouldn't want to live in either but if I had to choose I would pick Mississippi. I could live in Oxford or on the coast because it's close to New Orleans.

Bama

I lived in Winter Park and PCB. PCB was just dead other than spring break/summer. Orlando was OK. But I'd choose Huntsville over both of them.

I'm in Nashville it's a cool town. Kills me to say it but better than anything in ALA/MS or Florida.

I think Huntsville could rival it. Lots of growth and business happening there. But still needs time to grow.

I love talking football in an intellectual and objective sense. The amount of blatant homerism and ignorance of the game is astounding in general conversation. How can one be so attached to a particular sport and not know what the frick they're talking about?

You do know Lee County isn't between Montgomery and Mobile right?

It's all interstate, I get it, but it adds 40+ miles to the drive.

It is around the same latitude of Montgomery and north of Mobile. I thought it was a given that I wasn't solely talking about the I65 corridor.

Yea, it's just awful. I don't understand how people can chose to be so intellectually dishonest solely because it involves their favorite team or school.

I honestly do not understand it. At all. And it drives me nuts to the point that I just have to stop being around it.

Doesn't matter really, Lee County is still firmly in the middle of the Forbidden Zone.

Sounds like you are trolling, but I'll give my opinion anyway. For perspective, I've lived in the following cities -

Atlanta, Georgia
Savannah, Georgia
Birmingham, Alabama
Mobile, Alabama
Ruston, Louisiana
Beaumont, Texas

Alabama - I am pretty familiar with most of the state, a lot more than I am with Mississippi.

From Birmingham to north and east are the Appalachian Mountains, great places for a drive and outdoor activities with lots of parks, waterfalls, etc. Birmingham has more than a million residents in the metropolitan area and has world class medical treatment and research facilities. Views of downtown from atop Red Mountain are great. Lots of museums, restaurants, college sports, etc. Barber Motorsports is considered the Augusta of race tracks and in addition to the large motorcycle museum, it hosts motorcycle races, Indy car races, and is home to the Porsche driving school. Most people that complain about crime in Birmingham have never lived in a medium or large city anywhere else.

Huntsville is either first or second in the country for highest concentration of engineers and people with advanced degrees. Home to NASA and military contractors. Tennessee River runs by and has lots of great outdoor activities.

Mobile is a beautiful southern city and nearby Gulf Shores / Orange Beach has powdery white sand beaches. Mobile actually has quite a few hills and isn't your typical flat land city on the gulf.

I'll add some positive comments on Mississippi. I've driven a lot through there. It also is very pretty on the back roads and has more terrain than Louisiana and southeast Texas. They do a great job maintaining their interstates and state highways. You'll notice a big difference between say 59 and 20 versus 10 and 12 through Louisiana. People are very friendly there too.

Well the nice thing about the Huntsville area is that Bama and Auburn fans can come together and make fun of the Tennessee fans.

Lower BMI in dumb rich white girls - advantage MS
Fewer women that dip - advantage MS
