How are you prepared for emergencies?

Less than 24 hours into this cluster that is going on, it's easy to see how many people are ill prepared or have a lack of common sense. I wonder how many would survive a true disaster.
How hard is it to have a change of clothes, a couple blankets and some bottled water in a vehicle during winter? For an educated society, there seems to be a growing lack of common sense nowadays.

I don't have the blankets but I do carry overalls and a jacket rated for -10 degree weather.
I also have a duffel bag with bottled water, MREs, basic first aid kit, and a small survival pack that I keep in case things go shitty.

I'll be honest, I need to be better about this.
Also, Alahunter I started a thread about the State of the Union last night and was hoping to get some insight from you or anyone else. I didn't watch it.

Not sure how much good water in a plastic bottle would do for you. It would more than likely be frozen.

I don't have MRE's, but probably need to put a little something in there for eats. I was thinking of some of those high calorie energy bars...
Each 3600 calorie Mayday Food Bar is 27 ounces and is pre-cut into 9 pieces.

It can be warmed if you have the ability to make fire. And it's not always going to be freezing in an emergency.

I'm pretty well prepared, including a lot of common sense. I have bottled water, a blanket, and a good flashlight in my car.
As I tried to leave my office yesterday to get my kids from school, common sense told me they were safe at the school and they wouldn't be left there alone. As I approached an intersection a block from my office, I saw 4 cars that had already slid off the road, and decided to turn around and keep myself safe. As long as my kids remained at the school, they would be safe. It sucked as a parent, but it was the best decision.

House-being in hurricane country, I keep about 50 gallons of gas year round, make sure the generator and chainsaw are always operational, non-perishable food and grains (rice) stocked up, 10 +/- gallons of distilled water, bleach, water purification equipment, lanterns, flashlights, first aid supplies, etc.
I always find it strange when people rush to the grocery store before a storm, or make a big deal about it. The list of essentials is short, and usually only have to be purchased one time or replenished once a year.
ETA: Usually mucho alcohol in the house, as well. Always necessary for emergencies. Ran low on brown liquor this time around, though.

Yesterday, I packed a bag with my medicines, shaving kit, clothes etc. I also packed winter overpants and winter wind coat and scarf.
Made sure I had a ht too.
I usually have some food and water in the car.
Probably should put a 1 gallon container of water in the trunk for real emergencies.

I live in one of the snowiest cities in the country and dont have any of that in my car.

My bad for assuming you meant prepared for a cold weather emergency. And the plastic would melt before the ice would.

I have tools extra coats and clothes water flashlights everything but food in my daily driver. I have all the essentials in my work truck including fuel and a generator along with a space heater
