You just described most people, including cops.

Unlike a lot of people on this board, I don't hate all cops. If he pointed that black gun controller at her (the one RebelGator posted), I understand the shooting. However, I haven't seen anything that suggests the controller looked anything like that, or that he pointed it at her.

yes most people are but now she might be hesitant so do you want her protecting you if shite was to hit the fan? unless you are putting her on desk duty she has to be let go because of the incident even if she isn't charged. I believe cops need to be held to a higher standard because of what their job entails. its not hate for them, I hate their thin blue line. I think they are better off if they weed out the ones that frick up. it would help their image problem

I'm not anti police either. There are plenty of honorable officers. I'm related to a few and friends with a few more.

Unfortunately, there are many drawn to the job because they want the power that comes along with it.

It's kind of like when some pyromaniacs are drawn to jobs as firefighters, or some pedophiles are drawn toward professions that place them in close proximity and trusted roles with children.

I agree with this, however, for whatever reason the honorable ones will defend the actions of the incompetent ones and sometimes even the down right scumbags.

I don't want to count on a cop to protect me, period.

This is a legitimate concern. There is no excuse for protecting bad officers. However, it certainly doesn't apply in this case.

No argument here. I'm related to several cops, and friends with another. Two of the three I'm related to are exactly the kind of people that have no business being cops.

damn cop only got 15 years for killing two kids and putting you in danger?

I was never in danger(long driveway), unless it had been really bad guys, but they weren't.They were just a pair of cousins, out riding and bullshitting.
The thing that always got me, this guy was riding around, off duty, with his girlfriend, in the patrol car,3am, pulls some kids over.

To be fair, cops are pretty much forced to take on a defensive attitude because of the dicks who cry any time they do anything, no matter how by the book its done.

There are people, lots of them, who actively go around with video cameras trying to antagonize cops. Its a profession that breeds defensive mechanisms.

sure this is a problem but they carry a position of power. I wont put all the blame on the regular cops, some blame comes from shitty political higher ups in their offices and some comes from pussy people that cry about everything. I don't think cops should have a problem with people videoing their work, they are suppose to be working for the public. I actually think departments should give officers more discretion on situations. If you hold them accountable and give them more discretion then maybe the public image changes. I think they also have a public image problem because they have become tax collectors in recent years more than public servants.

I still think they would be better off if they weed out the shitty ones and stop protecting them. It is bad to come off as a us vs the public when the public is paying your salary.

Irrelevant.

They do weed out many of them. But it will never be enough for the anti-cop crowd. And let's not pretend that the police are the only profession that protects their own.

The only people who think cops are against the public as a whole are the ones who had a beef with cops to begin with. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Kid was a dumbass. You dont point fake guns at people with real guns. Its like sticking a fork in the electrical outlet.

Cop definitely shouldnt have just drawn and fired without warning, though.

The thing is, cops get shot for a bunch of stupid reasons. If they were coming to serve a warrant, opened the door and found some dude standing there with a fake gun -- I don't expect a cop without extensive experience in mounting (breaching and clearing) training to become SRT or HRT.

It ain't easy when you've got a target on your back.

wrong, very relevant. The stakes are much higher when you are a public servant and peoples lives and freedom depend on you doing a worth while job. Also when your own team members have to count on you in the rare life threatening situation it is pretty relevant to have highly functioning members instead of people that crumble and shoot over a wii remote.

debatable, and i never said they were the only profession that protects their own. Politicians do it all the time and take shite for it as well. Other profession do but they often aren't tasked with the same power as cops.

this was more reference to what you see on the OT. the cops/ boot lickers often come off as a Us vs the public attitude when defending every action. Also the increase of tickets causes this in IRL. I don't blame the every day cop for this, they are just following the orders of the higher ups that are taking in the MADD money to write ticket after ticket, and the politicians telling them to generate revenue.

This would be the first time I've heard it was a "gun" controller. I thought it was a normal Wii controller.

Fatso pulled out the Wii 50cal

Good thing he was too poor for an xbox.

If you point a solid black, white, whatever color gun at a cop you don't deserve what happens next, but their was an easy way to avoid what happens next.

No, still irrelevant.

Just because someone holds a position of power does not mean that they should be subject to random antagonization that occurs regularly.
