Truth, good BBQ doesn't need sauce.

Yup, Bryan and CS are basically one bigger city. The north part of campus and the bar area are right on the edge of CS and Bryan

Sassy's Red House (new skool)

I'm not a huge fan of Sassy's. I like the other 3, though, especially PE's.

Dawg Gone Good downtown is the best drunk food in Athens.

True statement. It was great when I lived on Finley and it was on my way home.

I think Fresh Air is the best bbq in Athens, but their stew sucks. That and even with two locations neither one is conveniently located.

The one on MLK, by the lumber yard? Since when did they start carrying sides?

Athens has a severe lack of good BBQ. The only decent place closed down two years ago when pork started to skyrocket.... Jotemdown BBQ.

The rest of them are mediocre at best...

gatahator mentioned ButtHutt, their sides are hands down the best, but the bbq is mediocre.

Fresh Air, which has also been mentioned by Timber Dawg, is absolutely the worst BBQ in Athens.

If you want good, you've got to get at least 20 minutes out of town and check out Zeb's near Danielsville, and there's another good place in that general direction that doesn't even have a name.

Athens just does not have any good BBQ.

(Except White Tiger... but it's not really a traditional BBQ joint)

ETA: ACC County health codes make it very difficult for a food service establishment to smoke meat and sell it to the public, therefore any bbq you get around here is going to be cooked by some other method than smoking.... and then the cooked product will then be 'smoked' after the fact.

In Tuscaloosa, skip Dreamland and ask someone how to get to Archibald's

Archibald's is the best.

Dreamland is all hype.

Gosh darn it, Baton Rouge BBQ is just terrible. How I made it through school back in the day with the crap they call food in that town is beyond me.
