Football is modern day slavery. Give a talented black athlete some free food and a dorm, and he busts his arse everyday for the rich white man's entertainment without ever seeing a dime in return.

Meh, white athletes, Hispanics, and Samoans get offered the free food/dorms, too.
It's a shitty situation because of the lack of paying athletes, though.

Exactly, that isn't a race thing, that's a shitty NCAA thing.

Yup. It's ridiculous.
NCAA needs to go the way of the IOC and realize that these kids at major schools aren't really amateurs anymore. Just pay them or don't restrict them from profiting off their name that they're busting their arse to make.

Look I think both sides are way off base.
I don't think Trayvon was a sweet innocent kid skipping down the street with a lollipop. I also don't think he was some thug criminal who decided to viciously and insanely attack a guy just because he was white and asked him a question.
Both characterizations are ludicrous. None of us known the real truth about GZ's or TM's prejudices and belligerence.
What we do know is that GZ's life was not in danger. I've seen schoolyard fights with much worse injuries than that and at no point was anyone's life threatened or were arms beared.
Now, some people will say GZ's felt his life was in danger and thus was justified. That's basically a license to murder.
Why didn't GZ produce the gun first? Just flash it? Or fire a warning shot? Or shoot him in the leg?
Trayvon was smaller and unarmed. Even if he was a thug, i have a hard time belieiving he was a psychotic who didnt care if he lived or died.
There are two possible scenarios in my opinikn. Maybe GZ just straight up killed him. That would be murder. Or Maybe he didn't have the composure and wherewithal and overreacted. That would mean he was unqualified to be bearing arms, and I would call it manslaughter or at the very least reckless endangerment

While I wouldn't have a problem with this, I DID also say "or let them profit off their name that they're busting their arse to make"

Nah, I've discussed paying athletes at length on sbnation, and I really don't care to get into it again.

Actually, that is exactly the definition of self defense.

Because showing a gun is called brandishing, and that is illegal. So is firing a weapon in city limits.

How dare you contradict me? I consider that a threat to my life. Sorry bud.

So is ATVS. My first introduction to the site was a few years ago when a long missive one of the mods posted about why A&M belonged in the SEC and how texas was fricking up got linked to me. Soon as I read that, I knew that there were SEC folks who "got it," when it came to why TAMU needed to make the switch. They do a great job.
And I like that GBH doesn't take themselves too seriously. TexAgs is starting to get really petty about stupid shite lately
