The real problem in the Dunn case is that jurors were allowed to consider lesser charges like 2nd degree murder and manslaughter with much lower thresholds of proof and still couldn't agree. Even if it wasn't 1st degree murder, it sure seems like manslaughter.

Sounds like the jurors couldn't come to an agreement.

As an aside:

Dunn faces charges of first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree attempted murder, and one count of shooting or throwing a deadly missile.

Holy shite. How do you throw a deadly missile?

That was a textbook self defense case. If you are having your head beaten into pavement repeatedly, reasonable assumption can be made that your attacker intends on killing you, and you can use deadly force.

This thread has derailed. I thought we were going to talk about how black athletes are treated in Southern schools.

That was sarcasm, not humor.

After conversing with a good friend of mine whose parents both are in the law field(mom federal prosecutor and dad is a district judge), he said that it would have been impossible to convict on murder 1 and he also said that his parents argue about the law needing a fundamental overhaul weekly. . On and by the way Roger he and his parents both agree that reasonable doubt is created by the defense in every trial.

I guess I don't see it that way thinking back to all the innocent black men that were convicted when there was nothing more than circumstantial evidence.

A) Some links would help.
B) This is a flaw with jurors, not the court system.

I would also think it is a flaw with who your defense attorney is as well. Having the funds to buy a top defense attorney vs a public defender (who are often inexperienced and/or swamped with cases with little time to mount a really good defense).

This is definitely true, and probably the worst thing about our criminal justice system. Those with money get better defense lawyers.

I'd still challenge anyone to find a more equitable criminal justice system in a comparable country.

Racial prejudice and hatred isn't as strong in other countries as it is in this one. Even in cases where a defendant is presumably guilty, a jury of bigots can, have and will set the defendant free. On the reverse the same jury can, have and will convict because of bigotry. So it just fricked up all around

I'd argue it's influenced more by socio economic status than racial prejudice.

I can agree that it has an influence, but its not lone variable and neither is my argument for that sake

Don't know but I know Daylon Mack's mother said she wouldn't let him visit Florida because of Trayvon. So I'll let all you backwoods fricks in Dixie commit all the self-inflicted damage you want.

No witnesses saw his head getting beat in the ground.

In fact, witnesses placed GZ on top of the scuffle

And then of course the boyish pleading cries for help, followed by a dominant aggresive adult voice and then the shot. From Surdyka.
