Because it doesn't fit your narrative? Sounds about right.

Your article states nothing, just that it 'might be a good idea' to discuss it openly. I've seen where that goes on reddit and elsewhere. People are judgmental as hell.

Discussing it with close friends is one thing, discussing it in an open forum is another

Death is it's own special entity. Many vets on here talk about occasions, close calls and other contact related incidents but none pour out the dark stuff and for good reason. For starters, half of the public doesn't believe you. Then, when something is confirmed by another individual the people who didn't believe you treat you like a savage. Some can handle hearing it but there's nothing fun or amusing about celebrating the dead. Even if it was the people trying to kill you and your buddies.. Even if you did thoroughly enjoy taking part or doing your job.. That makes you even more of an animal is some eyes.

Close friends are ok, but the public doesn't need it.

Also, most Soldiers don't need fricking help either, but thanks for the link I guess..

My neighbor (at the time) had my friend's dad (also her lover) kill her husband. As soon as we heard he was shot we knew who did it. He's in the pen. She basically got off with a slap on the wrist. They did a brief synopsis of their case on Investigation channel once. Pretty crazy. I watched the police come arrest her at like 2 in the morning a few weeks after the shooting.

Then about 10 years after that, we had a husband-wife couple who were friends of ours. Wife was addicted to shopping and rather than face the fact that the bank was foreclosing on their house, she pumped 5 or 6 from a .45 into him at point blank range. He lived. She got off on "self-defense." Messed up.

I sat through the entire court case. I'm sure the ADA graduated in the bottom quarter of a 3rd tier law school. It was embarassing.

You have names for either of those people? I feel like this would be a good PSA.

I do. If you're in eastern Missouri and dating a redhead or a brunette in their 40s, email me for the names.

Different case (obviously), but my wife (from St Charles) was telling me about camping with her friend every summer up until the year her friend's Dad killed the Mom. She mentioned it like it happens to everyone

Not sure exactly what you mean by the public, but yeah, I've heard stories from close friends, both military and police. Small group setting. Quiet conversation with trusted friends after a few drinks, and not anything they were bragging about. If anything, you could see a bit of sadness in their eyes when they talk about it.

I do know a few guys who start talking openly and gladly when they're around other vets, but I tend to step out of the convo if they're not guys I know well and let them share their memories amongst each other.
