Briefly in a moment of weakness I thought I did.

At Memphis in May in 2008 I was with my friends and one walks over and says John Smith(name withheld) from my HS class (he dropped out JR year) was a few feet away and was wanting to say hi. Well I'd had a few drinks and "other stuff", and completely forgot. Never talked to him that night, or ever again.

Later that night he committed suicide at his parents. I got the call the next day and I blamed myself briefly, however I soon realized after a day or so that even if I had come over and asked him how he had been or what he was up to that he still would have been having ill thoughts about life. There was nothing I could have said or done that would haven taken those thoughts away.

No, but a friend of mine did and it messed him up in the head for several years.

Leaving a bar, he saw a really drunk guy harassing a young lady and told the guy to chill out. Guy attacked him, and he landed a punch in self defense that knocked the other guy out. He fell back and hit his head on the curb and died.

He had never been in a fight in his life and is still in therapy over it 15 years later.

Wow, I guess that would freak him out considering he'd never even been in a fight before. Not his fault though. If the other guy wouldn't have been a drunk douche harassing & attacking people, it wouldn't have happened. Your friend didn't know the guy was gonna hit his head & die or intend for that to happen. ... On the bright side, anyone who knows about the incident will never frick with your friend for sure.

Directly, or indirectly?

I've been named in a suicide note. That's the furthest I'll go into it without lying in an online forum.

Damn, that has to be bizarre & upsetting. However, no one kills themselves over one incident or person; there are always many deeper issues. And the only one responsible for his own suicide is the one who makes the choice to do it & follows through with it.

Wow, that's really shitty.

That's why I avoid any street fight at all costs. You just never know when some freak accident can happen.

Didn't this thread come up a few weeks ago?

Anyway, I was in Baghdad, outside of Sadr City for 15 months (was there on April 4th) from 2003-2004...read into that what you will.

Yeah, he knows he wasn't in the wrong. The victim's parents even forgave him and has contact with him every now and then. It was just a freak accident, but still a heavy burden.

And he's otherwise fine now. Wife, 3 kids, good job, etc. Still struggles with the guilt though, so still goes to therapy. And even if someone messed him today, I doubt he'd even throw a punch.

Please don't misquote Johnny Cash's songs. He worked hard writing them correctly.

Your answer is spot on. Most guys who did get put in situations where they could clearly identify kill shots would not brag about it.

I wouldn't say that talking about it means that they are bragging. Some people deal by telling other people their story.

Killed an elderly woman. Served her really strong coffee. She had a stroke an hour later and died.

Boy did you show me.. That article is fricking retarded BTW.. It helps to talk to others that have been in the same situation, same settings.. Somebody that knows the language. Otherwise you'll feel like people are either listening for the wrong reasons or judging you.

Are you speaking from experience or your arse? I'd like to know before this date goes on any longer..

I am speaking as a friend that has listened to vet friends' stories.

Because it doesn't fit your narrative? Sounds about right.
