Does anyone have recommendations for watching these games that make me not seem like an arse (and yes, I'm aware I look like an addict)?

Do you not own a DVR?

You aren't even missing your team.

I'll probably be in the wedding. And I'm sure every other guy there will be wanting to watch the football as well so I'm sure we'll be able to figure something out. I'd ideally be downtown watching them, but I understand this is one of the more important moments in their lives, and there should be enough alcohol there to make me happy. At least it isn't a fall wedding. I'm skipping two family members weddings because they're on Ga-Fl and Auburn-Ga

Okay, now that I understand somewhat what an engagement party is, and the motivation to have one, I'll answer.

Is it possible to move the venue to a house with cable? Would he be receptive to you talking to him about having TVs available for those that want to watch the games? Could the party turn into an engagement/football party, or is the wife-to-be too narcissistic to allow that?

Seems that if everyone there is a football fan, it wouldn't be a huge deal to have some TV's set up, but then I understand how women get with their engagements and weddings.

Engagement parties are for chicks man. Have something conveniently "come up". Stay long enough to make your presence known and jet.

Catch him at the bachelor party. That's what counts ;)

it always depends on the game. Last year, I missed the New Mexico State game for an engagement party, absolutely not a problem. If it had been an SEC game, I would have been pretty irate.

A celebration for what? To say that you're going to get married only to, likely, get divorced a few years later? Why not wait until your bachelor or bachelorette parties for this? Many of us don't have the time, or want, to attend all of this shite.

Just quoted Catfan for truth.

Poor kids who just finished college and decided to get married before the age of 25. And they don't have an antenna either so I won't be able to catch any games.

These parties have just become so popular in the South for kids who get married right out of college (they want to celebrate with friends and I get that). Gender reveal parties on the other hand seem like the worst thing ever and I will never attend one of those.

frick it,

Take your tablet and run it off your smartphone hotspot. I was stuck at a crusty Dressage "party" last season opening weekend and half the guest were out by my Suburban before the game was over....

Having it actually made a lot of people's lives happier that day it did mine.

I skipped an engagement party this weekend for a wedding where I'm a groomsman and I think the guy is mad at me about it. Whatever. I had never heard of this shite til a couple years ago.
