One of my good buddies is getting engaged the first week of the college football season, and his engagement party is that Saturday night around 8:00. This wouldn't be a big deal, except the people's house who he's having the party at don't have cable. This would mean I'm missing the Alabama vs. Wisconsin, Texas @ ND, and Arizona St. vs. A&M game. Does anyone have recommendations for watching these games that make me not seem like an arse (and yes, I'm aware I look like an addict)?

And before someone says pick better friends who don't get engaged on CFB weekends, he is in the Marines so this will be by far his easiest weekend to make it happen.

Why does he need to have an engagement party? What the hell is an engagement party? I don't think I'm that old and out of touch(42), but not a single one of my friends had an engagement party.

I don't have any suggestions except maybe show up late.

Take a roku or similar and use your cable login to watch it on their TV.

Stream it on your phone or use gamecast.

Get a few cocktails in them and convince them to go to a bar.

If they have TV & Antenna, you're good as the AlaBama & Notre Damn games are OTA...

I think the point he was making is that since his friend is in the Marines, he doesn't have a lot of options for available weekends.

Be glad it's the first weekend and not later in the season. Go early/leave early or go late. Check scores periodically on phone.

You should have your mancard revoked for even considering this question, much less posting it.

it's really ridiculous.

I wouldn't go, let the women celebrate the engagement.

He wouldn't be having one if he didn't know that she would be upset if she didn't get one. The big problem (especially with girls finishing college or right out of college) is that once her other friends had engagement parties, she would be upset if she didn't get one of her own. I could just game cast it, but it's not the same thing at all as watching it live. Is it rude to bring your own computer and set up the games on the hosts' TV?

At some point, we need a really big reset to our culture.

I'm not a man.

But I agree they aren't necessary but depending how close of a friend, sometimes you just have to attend these things.

Some of you sound like some miserable fricks. Why so mad because people want to get together with friends and have a party? Oh the horror!

Now not having cable TV so people can keep the football game on in the background does kind of suck. However, you should be able to watch probably the two biggest games that night bc Alabama/Wisconsin and ND/Texas are on network tv. You likely wouldn't be flipping between more than a couple of games anyway.
