I quit dipping a few years back after my brother had a skin graph from the roof of his mouth to his bottom gums.

I've been dip free for 8 years. I do miss getting a big dip and taking a dump. Simple pleasure in life.

Dipped for 12 years - finally quit 2 years ago

Occasional cigar. Rare cigs with lots of alcolhol. I really dont crave any of it anymore.

I love smoking. I've quite a couple of times - the longest period being 2 years. When second child was born, I celebrated with a cigar. One cigar turned into a cigar on the weekends. A cigar on the weekends turned into a cigar after work. A cigar after work turned into a cigar during lunch, after work, and on the weekends.

Finally, I admitted defeat, and started smoking cigarettes again. Alcohol really isn't a trigger for me - stress is my trigger. I don't smoke inside, so smoking forces me to remove myself from the stressful situation.

Watching football - something about a dip of skoal long cut wintergreen really hits the spot. Only when watching football.

I'm the same. I can live without a dip in my mouth during the quitting process. but some things just don't feel right.

I recently took a new job that has me driving all over Texas. I dip on road trips and always have. Now it is a freaking nightmare. I have removed dip from days in the office, and mowing the lawn and even hunting a little bit... but those roadtrips are unbearable without something in.

I've smoked cigarettes off and on for 20 years. I'm not sure I've ever really been addicted though. I've stopped several times cold turkey and never had any withdrawal. Last time I quit, I didn't even think of having one for 5 years. Then my wife went out of town with the kids a couple of months ago and out of boredom I bought a pack. Took me over a week to finish that pack, and I've had a couple since then. I haven't had one in a couple of weeks though.

I don't think I have an addictive gene in my body. Or maybe I'm just in denial.

I quit in January of 2007. Started back in January of 2008 when the shite hit the fan in my life.

I know I should quit again; it's too damn expensive. Makes me sick thinking of all the money I've spent on camels I smoke more when I'm at work. I don't really smoke that much when I get home at night.

I'll quit either when I turn 35, or pass the bar exam. At least I have a goal now

You smoked Marlboro reds? That says a lot about you as a person

I smoked (pack a day) for about 20 years. There were a few breaks in the 20 yrs, once I quit for 2 yrs but I started again.

I haven't touched tobacco in any form in the last 5 years. I used the patch and I reworked my daily routine to change up the times I would smoke. I plan on starting back in 30 years.

I've had one cigarette in my life and it was the most vile thing that I've ever tasted. I quit after that one and haven't picked up one since.

Out of curiosity, how long and how often did he dip?

In college, a lot of my friends were into smoking so I tried to take it up too. I kinda wanted to get addicted, but after getting down a few cigs over the course of a few days, I realized it was impossible. Absolutely disgusting and awful, I don't see how anyone could get into cigarettes long term. Of course, I'm sure many people say the same thing about dip too.

Cool little article. Decent amount of truth in there too.
When I smoked I started with Reds at age 15 or 16, moved to Camel Turkish Silvers for the rest of high school, had an American Spirits phase, but ended up smoking nothing but Marlboro Menthol's. Only time I'll ever smoke now is if I'm drinking and somebody offers me a cig, but I'll refuse if it isn't a menthol
I fit several of the descriptions in that article

This. I find it really hard not to light a cigarette whenever I get in my car to go somewhere. Driving makes me want a cigarette every time. When I run out of cigs and have to drive to the store without one it annoys me. I really wish I could take something like chantix without the side effects to help me quit.

i have been half arse smoking for years. i might buy 2 packs a week. but, my smoking consists of going outside, behind our pool house (hiding from my almost grown kids ), taking two or three puffs and throwing the cig away. it is so dumb, so wasteful, but, for whatever reason, i enjoy it.

now, during a stressfull football game, i might smoke a half pack of half cigs with a few beers

I started smoking Marlboro reds several years back, because of a woman.

Quit cold turkey after maybe a year.

I've been dipping for probably 8 years....................though it's probably been a once a week kind of thing for the last 2 or 3 years. Truthfully, I don't know why I still do.

10 weeks on the patch and copious amounts of gum; I haven't had a cig since January.
